I am almost ready to pull the trigger on my first rc. I would like the best of both worlds (trail blazing, mud, water, and power for rock crawling). This is the setup that I am looking at. Is this everything that I need to get up and running?

Ascender 1:10 4WD Kit - To learn the ins and outs of how it works
Hacked FlySky GT-3C - Multiple channels for winch, lights, and 2 speed tran (later additions)
Savox SW1210SG Waterproof*Servo
Axial AX30836 Aluminum Servo Horn 25T - Will this fit?
Castle-Creations-BEC-10A - Waterproof
Holmes-Hobbies-TorqueMaster-BR-XL - Waterproof
Holmes-Hobbies-CrawlMaster-Expert-540-13t

Battery Pack (x2) - I'm not really sure, in thinking 3S 5000mah 50c?
HiTec 44164 Ultima X2 Dual Port Charger

Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Looks pretty good, but you want Vaterra brand clamping servo horn or non-clamping metal horn, the Axial clamping are really big around the splines and will hit the panhard rod on compression. My Ascender RTR stock plastic servo horn is still going strong...I can't believe it, but it is. "thumbsup" Hudy and Dynamite make pretty nice aluminum non-clamping horns.

Batteries go wtih SMC, good quality and good price.

Otherwise looks great and welcome to RCC and crawling! Read the stickies and check out some build threads in the Vaterra Ascender section.

The Savox 1210 is pretty solid. Could use a tiny bit more torque but overall I like mine a lot after 7-8 months. Any 25T horn will fit a savox, but like homeboy said, the axial ones are a little on the large side.

X2, but shoud be good for 1.9 lighter weight truck like Ascender. I'm still rocking the stock RTR steering servos in both my Ascenders, but I have added an output shaft from Avid RC bearings ($1 lol) to the stock servo.

That setup is very similar to what I run in mine, with one notable exception. I run the Crawlmaster Pro 16T on 3S with the 2-speed and really like it. Since you have inklings of going with the 2-speed, you'd have way more than enough top end in high gear with the 16T and stock spur/pinion. If you stick with the single speed, 13T on 3S should be very nice. If it ends up feeling a bit quick for you (which it probably would in high gear with the 2-speed), you can always drop to a smaller pinion and/or set an exponential throttle curve through the radio or ESC.

The 1210 has been excellent for me in multiple 1.9 rigs (including the Ascender). X2 on the clearance of the horn. If I recall correctly, the stock horn was one of the very few stock parts that didn't survive too long for me (sorry Nate), so best to go aluminum from the start. Whatever horn you get, make sure it's 25T (sometimes marketed as made for Futaba). I'm still going strong with the stock knuckles, c hubs and lockouts after much abuse, so no worries on those.

Hacked FlySky is terrific. Just make sure you remember to charge the transmitter pack before you go out each time. Also make sure you get a Castle Link to program the ESC and BEC. I am a big fan of making the throttle curve exponential through Castle Link, and you'll want to set voltage on the BEC, as well. I run 6V to both servo and receiver. If you plan to order the motor and ESC direct from HH, throw in the servo Y-harness for $6. That allows you to use the BEC to power the servo and ESC to power everything else (receiver plus any other accessories).

I usually run 5000 mAh 3S packs and easily get 3+ hours of runtime (I've gone 4 a few times with no issues). If you're not planning on being out that long, you could easily use a smaller pack without fear to save some weight, esp if you plan to carry a spare pack with you. 50C is plenty (no need for more, 35C would be fine also).

Good luck with the build and let us know if you have other questions. This truck is an absolute blast and tough as nails.

Yes and two-speed is great upgrade that adds lots of versatility. You can run 2s and still have his wheel speed and crawling, run 3s and have a blast. 16T HH motor lasts little better than 13T before it needs brushes.

Lol on the plastic servo horn...I've never had one hang on here like these have. Aluminum spares at the ready since day one. :). Always carry spare if your running the plastic stocker.
