Official Reveiw,,,Pit Bulls "Rock Beast" 2.2 Prototype

well i got my tires today and had one hell of a time mounting them on my 1in eritex wheels! holy cow it took me an hour and a half for 4 tires! im using the nova dd in them, but what they are mounted they stayed so im happy with that:ror:. so far i tested in my backyard course consist of concrete both course and smooth along with river rock and some logs/tree roots. so far they work better than my chisels and rovers. im going to a testing area tomorrow and will take some pics of them working. the place im going to i know pretty well and i know what the rovers can do there and what they struggle with so it will give me a good feel for how this setup on my rig will work. ill try and get some pics uploaded tomorrow afternoon/evening. so far im very happy with these tires but like nova said wow they are wide

What width DD foam did you get ? I got the DD 5.5x2.25 but ended up trimming the inner foam to 1 7/8 to get them finally installed on my cheap stock LNC 1inch wheels. It seemed like the screws were stripping even after trimming the inner foam 2.25 down to 2.0 so I went a little more trying to stuff these in the rockbeast tires. They seem to work great for me but I am no expert like Novasark and will be looking forward to see what foams he finds works best for this tire.

ok i went to my little testing area and found out that these tires work just as good if not better than my rovers in most instances. some areas the rovers would walk right up and my rock beast were just searching but most of the time i found better grip with the pits. once i figure out how to post pics i will lol i must be stupid

im really wondering if these things will work good with prolines oversized memory foam. ill try it out next week sometime and let everyone know. i like the novas but it just seems like they are a bit stiff in the front love em out back though.

lol yea thanks a bunch for helping me through that. i really think they need a softer inner foam but ill let ya feel them tomorrow to get your opinion. i really like them though. i can say they were more predictable than my rovers and sidehilled just as good as my siped rovers.

after messing around today i found out that the nova 5.5x2.25 are much to firm in the front (at least for my liking). i am switching to a proline oversized memory foam and will see how it performs at our comp tomorrow. i ran a few lines at my house and it had incredible forward grip with the diff foams and the sidehilling wasnt too bad but i did notice the tire rolling due to the lack of sidewall support. i did get to test out the sidewalls strength though cause i folded the tire over a bolt trying to "right" myself and my front tires stopped. so what did i do.. gave her more throtle and it still wouldnt budge so i picked it up to see what happened. i thought for sure it was going to be ripped but it wasnt and it just stretched it out a little. its the exact same way that i tore a huge hole in my rovers sidewall so these must be stronger. i absolutely love these tires though and cant wait to see how the foams work at the comp tomorrow

looking at my pics where i said the rock beast had a harder time clearing that gate i now believe it was because of the stiff foam setup. my foams werent allowing my tires to grab. i will go there next week again to see if im right

I'll be giving these tires a good workout at our scale comp tomorrow, and will post results and pictures. Loving them so far, I can definately make some lines in my home rock crawling area that I couldn't with my Rok Lox.

I don't think I appreciated these tires fully until today. I got another set in the mail today, threw them on some Axial beadlock (which btw mounted up super easy) and put in per Nova's Ark's suggestion some of his foams with the 5.5" inner foams and 5.0 outer. Within minutes I was stunned. I made a climb I have never made before and have attempted dozens of times with 4 of the top tires on the market. I love the slightly smaller tire, the extra side hill control was a huge plus too.

All I have run these on was my 2.2 scaler until now and I knew they were good but I just didn't know how good. Also, I don't know why everyone is complaining about the width. They are not wider, just squarer than other offerings. Held right up to Sedonas the are exactly the same width.

If you are considering these just get them! No they are not cheap but they work great, wear really well, and look pretty scale too. Just in case you are wondering too, no I am not sponsored by Pit Bull and I get nothing out of what I just said. I just think you guys should know.

do those feel pretty soft with the 5.5 inner and the 5.0 outer? im also wondering cause my 5.5x2.25 novas felt way too stiff on my 1in wheel

Soft on the outside but stiff in the center, just like they should8)

since i didnt want to take apart my primary wheel/tire set up (vp DH, proline 2 stage in front and proline 2 stage outer ring and panther inner hard ring in the rear) wich think would be a good detup for this tire. but in a rush to test in the front some proline memory foam and rear a panther inner and modded rover outer. not nearly enough wheel weight in the vid but it was taken within 20min after being picked up from the LHS

may have to buy some 5.0 then.
X2....

I ran my PB's on my LCC at our comp today and they were a little stiff with my 5.5x2.25 CI foams on 1" wheels. I had lowest score on course one but some stupid mistakes and a truck that needs more fine tuning cost me on the other courses. These tires did hook up well, but had a little trouble on sections of rock that were dusty. Once again, it could be my foam set up also.
The other drivers were running Boss Claws, Rovers and Cougars.

My overall impression is I really like them! Pit Bull did a great job! I'll keep running them on my comp rig and as soon as I get a 2.2 scaler going, I'll be running these tires exclusively on it, also"thumbsup"

tried the proline memory foam in the fronts with novas dd out back and it worked pretty well. the front was a little soft so im gonna put in some stiffer foam. not sure what though
