those things are so huge you could use em for winches on a 1:1 rig! the second page has specs up to 109 lb/ft! and it's probably as big as a grapefruit.

ive been hassling castle about servo and stepper motor controllers, but i dont think they are too hip to the idea. i would love to have a stepper motor for my servo, or a stepper as a power source. think of the holding power and low speed torque that could be produced. up to date programming can control stepper motors like a normal brushless as well.

just when you thought this thread had died...

i got a package today from Castle Creations! inside was the promised Mamba-25, along with a Castle-Link USB cable to program it right from my PC. in addition to the basic programming, you can also set throttle and brake curves, and it updates the ESC's software with the latest operating system automatically. this is seriously high-tech stuff, i never thought i'd see the day when i'd plug my R/c truck into a computer, but that's just what i did. and it was hella cool!

now i just need that pinion gear!

did you know that the barracuda 80 and 120 use the same programming and everything? in other words they are car controllers with full reverse that are marketed for boat use. the pheonix line is a forward only, but it could be used for cars as well.

screw waiting for the mamba maxx, im getting a barracuda soon.

wow.... saw this thread a few days ago and thoght ......hmm..... I have a mamba 25 that I'm not using...... made a bracket for the brushless... put it in and...........nuthin'
but cogging......oh well......orederd the AXI (same as yours) w/ the mounting plate......
can't wait till it gets here :mrgreen: will let you know how it works out

have you updated the software yet? only in the last few months have the controllers been shipped with updated software. it makes a HUGE difference, and will get rid of your cogging.

don't know if its updated but it's probably not. how would I do it? don't have a link, bought it from a friend just motor and esc.

you will need a usb port, the internet (looks like you have that covered) and a phx link or someething. castle sells them on the website. plug it up, download the software, and viola. you have FULL control over the programming of curves and options. its so nice, i wish my transmitter would do it too.

Well I unsoldered the plugs from the mamba motor & soldered them to the AXI :shock:

put it in and WOW :mrgreen: what a motor. :mrgreen: crawls really well :lol:

gonna try mess w/ the programing, it does stall VERY little way less than the mamba

ONLY when the wheel is kinda stuck :?

Other wise very GOOD, maybe better than the lathe? don't know yet(more testing)

it is way lighter (AXI BL motor & mamba 25 esc VS. lathe motor & super rooster) :shock:

Well, got the link, just did'nt DL the software from castle yet. Do I need to DL the mamba link & the castle link?

It does work well with a 3-cell Li-Po & set @ race & high starting power.

It could use some fine tuning though w/ the link

you'll have to download both castle and mamba links, and have a battery connected to the esc for the programming to work. it takes a little fartin' around to get the system working, but once it's up, it's hella sweet.

i have never used a battery when i was programming. ive never had a problem with it. does the little link light up when you plug in the esc?

i couldn't get mine to recognize the esc without the battery connected. there's two indicators on the mamba-link screen for esc connection and usb connection. without the battery, the esc indicator shows red, and it won't program. when you connect the battery, it turns green and everything gets happy.

i pumped up the throttle curve right at the low end to get more starting torque and left the brake curve linear. once i get 4wd back, i'll play with the curves some more. high starting power and normal timing worked best for me. i found that the motor gets too hot with more advance, with not much gain in performance. but play with it, every rig is different.

I can't get mine to recognize either? USB is plugged in, link plugged into that, and esc into link. red light on link turns on, then w/ battery plugged in, green light flashes on link and red light on esc is on. The two status boxes remain red and when I hit UPDATE a pop up says no esc plugged in. :x Dont know whats going on :?
