Pajero X-treme with Portal Axles on Losi MRC

Hi!

I would like to show you my newest Project:

1:10 Pajero, based on Losi MRC axles with custom made PORTAL AXLES!

The portal axles are made from laser-sintered Nylon (rapid prototyping).
This production technic make them very strong and relieable.
Because of this great material this rapid prototyping printing process is not only limited to unusable prototypes.
You can print high quality, strong and functional parts.

The gears are made from steel, Modul 0.5.

The steering angle is limited by the stock CVDs to 45°. Because of the big tires, it is limited to 40° by software.

The Chassis consists of L-Aluminium profiles, which are atached to the original Losi MRC carbon chassis plates.

Losi brushless combo with 2s Lipo batteries (2x1550mAh).

Because of the soft springs, it was necessary to add a stabilizer to the front Axle to reduce torque twist.
I think this is much better than simpy changing to stiffer springs, because it cases a much more "scale" driving feeling.

Excellent work. I cut down a set of Gmade R1's, but this looks like a much more scale option. Well done!

But now step by step:

At first it is necessary to clean the plastic parts with an brush to remove production residues.

Here are all parts you will need to build your own portal axles:

Cut the original Losi driveshaft (Partnumber: LOSB1424) to the exact length.

Countersink the hole for the CVD:

Dependend on the position of the plastic parts during the printing process, it could be necessary to re-drill the holes for the ball bearings.
If the ball bearings can not be pressed in deep enough, use a 8mm drill to widen the hole. Be careful und rotate the drill 1-2 turns by hand!!!!

Now insert the ball bearing. Don`t use a screwdriver to du that! You have to apply the force to the outer part of the bearing, otherwise it will be damaged!

The CVD have to be cut acording to the picture. Make 2 flat spots for the worm screws of the gears.

There are different versions of the plastic parts available:
Version v1.0 (uses here)
Version v2.03 (uses same gears, but is slightly smaller to fit rims with 41mm inner diameter)

There is also a lock-out version of v2.03 available, with integrated damper mount.

8 Ball bearing 4*8*3mm (4mm inside, 8mm outside, 3mm with)
 
Close to ordering a set of these to go with the two Bruder cabs I just ordered. These are just what I need to get the true Unimog looks and function. Shapeways offers white and black. Which is stronger and has the best finish?
