Panther Cobras, Cut and Shut by a rookie!

I am running also. Actually I had to make a new set because I wore a set out. I really like but I wish they were 0.25" taller.

Allright I got em out today and.......I LOVE EM!!!! it seems that this will be my tire of choice. They side hill like a MOFO and the grip is amazing. Now I will say this every tire has it's goods and it's bads and I've found my happy medium. these 'Cobras grip like the butchered flat irons and smooth rock like the chisels. There were plenty of places these went that the chisels would not and a couple that the chisels would do but not the cobras. Like I said before this is my perfect medium of what I have run and these will stay on my MRC until??????

Soundcolor and I went out today and he's running my Frankenstein Body and I'm running the bug body and here's some pictures of the day.

I need to do some work to get these tires set up still.

1 haven't got the right foams just yet
2 gonna have to rework the weight in my rims cuz the foam section is very small

3 need to firm up the rear and get more squish up front.

When I figure this out they will be even better."thumbsup"

I need to break down and get some better rims I just dont want to drop 80+ bucks for rims:-( me too cheap.

The tires will work better if you will cut the V back out in the center and cut down the rear lugs. You can make the rear as hard as you want and they still seem to bite to hard with the lugs full height IMHO.
Here is a pick of how mine are .

Thought I would weigh in here with my .00000000002

originally, I was not impressed by the cobras, I didnt think they could work, I didnt like the design, and overall I just didnt see the point.

After having seen them run, I can say this..

WOW.
There were exactly ZERO times where I thought they were not doing exactly what they should be doing. They simply stuck in there like a champ.

Now, how do they compare to the chisels... In my opinion, the chisels are the second best option out there for the MRC.

I think the cobras, and the butchered FI's are neck and neck as to which is better. So I throw them in a tie. There was never one time that either of us could do, or climb something that the other couldnt. (well until my batteries died, and my motor gave up... )

I think the cobras have a better grip on smooth rock, there is no doubt, and they also seem to sidehill a little better. They are both outstanding on jagged rock, but IMHO, the FI's climb steeper, and dont get caught up in as many holes....

I can say one thing about the cobras that I never could really say about the chisles... I WOULD RUN THOSE TIRES...

We had a great time, and we both made some climbs that we have NEVER been able to do, and that has been thought impossible with a MRC.

Now, I just gotta get a motor that can handle what I can dish out... (thats 4 motors down for anyone counting)

I need to send ya guys the 1.9 Boss Claws. See how they match up. Hope

they could be in the same zone as the panthers and the prolines

Hell just grap your rig and hop a plane and test em out on some jagged Tennessee Rock that's covered on moss and mud!"thumbsup""thumbsup"

What compound are the cobras you have?
Do they have red dots, silver dots,or no dots?

I hope "No Dots" is the correct answer obi wan:mrgreen:

Hey Joe, what foams are you running in these tires? I'm getting tired of mounting and dismounting my beadlocks:shock:

Man I am not working so when ever you guys wat to come down let me know.

If your tires have no dots they most likely are med.soft

The reds hook about 100X harder.
In all honestly it is about the same difference as a set of Axial lizards and a set of panther or HB comp tires.

The stock white losi mrc mem.foam
What are you trying to run?

that's what I got in there now. but I'm running the axial 1.9 rims and I have a channel of lead weight running around the rim so there is less area for the tires to squish. I need some new rims but cant drop the cash right now. I'm going by Home Depot to test a new wheel weight theory and see if that will work for now. So do I need to make another set of the red dot cobras? I got the wrong ones dont I.:?

Hey Mr. Ed whats the new wheel weight theory? Iam just using the Great Plane stick on lead wait. With 4oz in each front and no wieght in the rear.

Before I switched to VP wheels I had a wrap of lead up front and the tire was still soft enough with that foam.
If yours are not I would be willing to bet you have the Med.softs not the softs "red dot" tires.
The red is way softer so your current foam setup would be gold with them.
For a dealer to sell the reds they have to buy 50 pair or something to get them .I am pretty sure Brian placed a order for 50 and may have them but not sure.
Eddie has them two.

If I were you I would just buy 1 pair "2Tires" and put them on the front and leave what you have on the rear.I have to cut just about all the lug height off the reds in the rear to tame them down on my setup and I know several people that run the harder tire on the rear to cut down on the rear hooking to hard.Just cut the V in the center of the lugs out like the tires come and that will help the tire move and conform better.

So is the T480 Cobra the Soft compound,
and the T480MS Cobra the Med. Soft?

Most places I see them have them listed as T480MS.
If you buy directly from Panther can you specify which ones you want?
