well sunday my G27 took a dump. the common loss of center to the left. left paddle went out too.
had been eyeing the thrustmaster for about a year. decided to upgrade to that.
i wanted it for PC, but to also have the option for Xbox one. so that meant the TX servo base. i also wanted there biggest wheel. which meant the Alcantara wheel.
i was able to find a $20 Ricmotech adapter that let me keep my moded G27 pedals. no trickery, no software, just plugs right into the thrustmaster base, and it sees them as default pedals, worked perfect. and saved $100 for the standard pedals and $150 for the pro pedals.
i wanted the largest wheel, which was the alcantara wheel. just so happened to be a 8/10 replica of my favorite Ferrari, the 599xx"thumbsup" 30cm vs the standard 28cm. Alcantara fabric is from the same factory Ferrari uses in Spa. has padding underneith. the red closest "main" button is a turnable two position rotary dial. and can also be pressed as seperate button as well.
size comparison
got it all setup. updated firmware from V48 to V50. gonna need to do some rigging to solid mount. sadly mount plate on the RR cockpit is hollow in the middle so i cant just drill two holes for the thrustmaster pattern. currently using the clamp mount with a couple old brake pads to span the hollow gap in the RR plate.
got to fiddle with it for about 30-45 minutes last night.
totally different feel. If i had to describe it in one word it would be "smooth" compared to the G27.
the G27 i could always feel and hear a pinion and spur gear feel. ie feel the teeth.
when you turn the wheel its just smooth like a real car. the FFB is also smooth. wheel is also totally silent. no zzzzzzzz sound when you spin it fast.
the paddles have a slightly longer throw, so you have to be more deliberate with your shifts, but no accidental double shifts like occationally on the G27.
Also found myself understeering a bit. possibly because of the larger wheel. it was like i wasnt turning the wheel enough.
over all first night impressions im anxious to get more time tweeking on it. you can definatly feel the difference in quality."thumbsup"
if XB1 isnt a concern the T300 combo is the way to go. for the same price i paid for the TX base and 599 wheel you can get the combo and basically get the pedals for free. the guts are the same. but the t300 has ability to go to 1080* for some reason. i believe its also a slightly newer base.
