im looking for photo editing software at a decent price, whats out there?

has anyone used the adobe photoshop elements 8?

Check out open source software like GIMP. I've never used it myself though. But for the price of free, it's worth checking out.

http://www.gimp.org/

I'm not really familiar with working with RAW files, but there's apparently a plug-in for GIMP

http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/

Gimp is great and free, its problem is not many use it, like well the big dog, PhotoShop. Luckily being an open source product theres still good support and forums to help.

That said, Gimp is no different than PhotoShop when it comes to plug-ins, except most plug-ins that are standard on PS are not on Gimp. Just a simple google will get you what you need 99% of the time though.

Personally now I use CS4 PhotoShop, because I use Illustrator and many others for other needs. Once you get in the mindset of Adobe, its easier to stay there. Luckily I get it free from work.

i have photoshop elements. it works great! if you get photoshop, pm me and ill give you a link for a ton of brushes and resource pics! "thumbsup"

All my work goes through Photoshop and Lightroom. Around $1000 if you buy both outright, but if you work or know anyone in the education field, you can get both for under $300 with an education discount.

You can always check e-bay just make sure the code is freed up. i got cs3 a while back for like 150 bucks whitch is 50 more than elements.
