PP2: The Pirate 4x4. Part 2.

Ingenious. About how many degrees did you bend it? Do you have a few more pics of it?

I was thinking of trying to run the smallest 32p spur & pinion I can. That should move the motor closer to the center line and help the motor clear the shock hoop with the cap installed.

Not sure on degrees, got a good eye:ror:, but if you do it, just bend it a little and test fit it. Sorry only pic I have of it. You might ask the owner, eric113, it's his R1 axle FJ40. I would run a smaller spur, it does help get the motor off the shock hoop.

Hell NO! I love the Teenycar. Jerry did an awsome job pulling that one down. His is an IFS just like mine only with the Summit tranny in his.
Two of the same beasts.

I was kidding. I'd have to give the Pirate and my first born for something like the TEenyCar! I saw his too, and that thing is bad ass as welll. I can't wait to see both of them finished.

No worries. We'll see how it goes with the smaller spur. Oh and thanks for the trusses. They're freaking sweet.

Try turning the trans plate around. ;-)

Hmm... Well, i ordered a the smallest spur available (54t?) and a 10t & 12t pinion, so we'll see how it goes. I thik it'll help the motor clear the shock hoop with no problems after that.

I do have that interior though, maybe i'll re-work it a bit, or use it as a template.

This is a very cool build! I say go for the 2speed and try and work in an interior!

Thanks. The hard part of it was already done when I got it. lol. Saydee and the DMG did a great job with it. It'll take some time, but i'll get there.

2.2's are too big

Just to get an idea of how it might look as a roller.

The Epic's were only $32 for the set of four and took less than 5 minutes to mount each Rok Lox. That price and the ease of installtion is too sweet. It has the right look, but is just way too big. Also keep in mind that the truck is just sitting i the rim since i didn't drill the rim for the stubbed hex yet.

Definitely need to find a good looking 1.9 setup in the future.

Does any one have a spare SCX skid that they don't need? This screw holes on this one are lmore worn that the village bike. I keep forgetting to order the damn thing when i order everything else i've been ordering...

Oh, and where can I find a nice steering wheel?

Had a little time to mount up the Mickey T Baja Claws on some stock SCX wheels.

This size looks much more accurate. Still just floating the truck in the wheels. I need to shave the hex on monday. And pardon the lifted ride height. It's still got nothing but the trans in it.

Thanks. i'm liking this look too. i think I might pick uip a set of chrome 1.9 Titus and see if I can get a vendor to make me some rings that are skinnier and only has 6 screws to clean up the look. then i get the look I want, with ease of mounting, and the right size"thumbsup"

Im liking those tires much better. I would keep the rims maybe and contact MTHEAD for some rings."thumbsup"

That culd very well be an otion as well too. I could also just de-ano the green rings, polish them and use the backside ring on he front.

That single sided beadlock is such a fantasic design though.

Paint the Shock Tower!!!!! ;-)

LOL. Soon enough. I need to finish mocking up everything. Then I'm off to Acew Hardware to find the Rustoleuim 7777.

On a green themed side note, I got notice that my green & black seats set is coming from team3Six"thumbsup"

Yup, seats are on the way brother. They will look nice."thumbsup"

I'm exited to see them. I eas eye-balling the center console/floor pan piece that came with the Pirate, and I'm going to have to make a new one. That Summit trans takes up so much real estate. I'm gonna have a honking centerconsole amd iffy bitty seating. Lol

Well the wings all bend, but you have to be easy with them, you dont want to snap them off.

But judging how Saydee had his mounted in there, why cant you do it the same way? The seats should fit fine then.

We'll just see how it goes. The floor pan could probably be reused but I Kinda want to setthe interior as deep as possible. I don't have much experience at all with interiors, but I'll sort it out. I hope to mock up my electronics this week, and focus my attention on the interior after that

itty bitty update

So I haven't really had time to work on this the last couple of days. Luckily, a bunch of parts came in. Most notably, a 54t spur, a Hand Bros kit (only for the servo mount as the RcBros one i had didn't work out as planned, and a scale seat kit from team#six (Thanks Norm"thumbsup")

The 54t spur made a huge difference in clearancce. The motor cleared the shock hoop easily with the 16t pinion I had on there. I picked up a 10t & 12t pinion as well, but they weren't needed.

Here's a camparison of the 54t to the 68t that came with the Summit trans.

You guys all probably already knew this, but I was totally shocked at the quality of work Norm puts out. The seats and all the accesories are absolutely stunning. I didn't have enoough ighting to really show it off, but the green matches near perfectly.

I got some thin hexes on there and it's finally an actual roller. I may have to run some stiffer springs than the losi whites, but it seems like it would ride like a cadillac as is. This thing is HEAVY. This has no pre-load, but it only has the trans, motor and shift servo in it:shock:

DSC02628.jpg

I actually like the look with it sitting at this height. but I definitely think this is gonna need some BIG drag brakes. The VXL doesn't have any, so what do you guys recommend as a suitable replacement? I was thinking I could just pick up a Mamba Max Pro and use the VXL motor. I've also seen some regular Mamba Max for sale in the classified section. Would that be enough?

I would Buy a Mamba max Pro if you plan running a brushless motor. But so you know a Holmes Hobbies TorqueMaster BR-XL. will line up those two holes perfect in the case. That what I used.;-)

The MMP is definitely looking like my best option.

I finally got it up and running. The 9100T I was planning to use seems to have some damaged splines on the output shaft so i couldn't get my robi horn on it. New gears are on the way so I'm using a cheapo 995mg in the meantime. Haven't really ran it besides a little run indoors just to check that it was shifting gears properply and such.

If i get home early enough i may try to run it out in the parking garage to make sure everything works at speed.

Next up is to order the steering wheel and fab up a mount for the driver's seat. The Summit trans sticks too far ove r to the right to stick in a passenger seat, so it'll be a single seater. I also got a Jones'n LED kit on the way for the headlamps.

With 4 link up front and the CMS, there is a huge amount as bump steer when the suspension cycles. Almost twice as much as I was expecting. Should make this fun to drive. If I get's too out of hand, I make run the 3 link up front.
