PP2: The Pirate 4x4. Part 2.

Sway bar are your friend. That why I put them on and they looked cool. 8)

I may have to look into that. But heck, the bump steer will just make it more fun to drive lol

I have been trying this....

I want to keep the panhard because of the chassis mounted steering. I chose a 4-link over a 3-link for a couple reasons. One, I just like having 4 links on the axle to even out the forces when the front end bounces off the rocks and logs that it will see in Top Truck competitions. I want to be able to hit things hard when I need to. :ror: My friend Rod Pepper has been running a parallel 4-link with a pan hard bar in his Jeep for years and it works great.

This setup has just enough side to side movement to not bind with the track bar. Plus it's just a bit different from what most people would do. :)

Not at all really it a standard 4 link and just the pan arm bar.

Never say Grizzly doesn't know!!!!! That's it send me my truck. :ror:

I kow that, but i mean getting the link geometry right so that it doesn't bind, sounds like a PITA.

Haha. i'll even trade it as is for $600 once i'm done properly breaking it in. Lol.

I would never trade my scrambler for any thing. It was Kinda a gift for a real nice guy.

Haha. The Scrambler is too filthy for my tastes. Lol Besides, thie Pirate is almost nearing bad ass status.

Edit: That statement wasn't too humble on my behalf, but I'm just excited with the way it's been turning out. My apologies.

Ran it around for a little bit to test it after work today. It'salmost scary fast (in high geaer) for such a fatty. Even low gear seems to have alot of scoot. The combonation of too soft a suspension (both springs and damping), torque twist, bump steer, and the fact that there were cars everywhere, led to alot of near misses, rollovers and crashes. One thing is for sure, it's durable.

The bump steer isn't so bad, but when the TT hits, then it makes like Beyonce and veerss 'to the left, to the left." I may try way stiffer springs on the left side first (since I have them) before i consider making a sway bar setup.

Also, I may have to add some weight to the wheels as this thing likes to roll over when taking a turn at speed. Good fun though.

I still need to work oon the interior & lights, and i hope to get some video soon. I also ordered a mini DVR *(under $23 shipped. WINNING!) for some in car video at some point.

I use traxxas 3 mil rod ends. The top piece is a 4mm rod with a Alum tube cover threw the chassis. The trick is you have to place two nuts on each side spaced a little of the 4 mil rod. them smash lock the sway bar and it will work great.

Then just drill the holes and use the lock them it.

The Rod fit better when I mounted behind the axle but I didn't think it look as cool.

I see if I can dig up some old picture in my archives at home. I know I had some better shots.

I was so dam proud of the sway bars. 8)

Ahhh. Those pics are a big help. I was thinking of trying something more like a old school clod/txt sway bar. at least i have a better idea of where you were going with it. Thanks"thumbsup"

This one is about the best I can find. If you look @ JR Bronco it pretty close. ;-)

Thanks Saydee. Those pics speak a thousand words. I'll reference the 1:1 if i can't get it sorted out. Doesn't look too hard to make.

what did you use for the fan on the back?

All that is, is just a cooling fan. You can find them pretty much anywhere.the cheapest way to get them is by purchasing a heatsink for motors in the rc section of ebay. About $5.00 for one. Thetoyz.com sells just the fan by themselves.

Photo Update.

So I got the driver's seat in. Still waiting for the steering wheel to come in. Don't think I'll be able to get the second seat in there though, as the trans is too far over to the right. Note the awesome color match. Pardon the fact that i don't have my fancy bedsheet back drop. i'm hard at work after the tsunami came and went:roll:

After the test run yesterday, I decided to stiffen the springs up a little. I went from 1.8 rate losi (white) all around, up to 2.0 rate (yellow) up front & 3.7 rate (green) in the back. I have 2.3 (pink) & 2.6 (red) if I need it stiffer in the front but thought the eyesore wouldn't be worth it. The way stiff 3.7 greens will have to compensate until I get a sway bar made.

Full frontal minus the nudity. I'll have to go a little wider to match (which will probably help a little with the high speed rollovers.

Me:
Note the space for a possible servo winch. I need to find some headlamp lenses once the Jones'n LED kit arrives. CPE high clearance tierod is sweet.
