Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

Re: Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

whenever i see that i just think its a bad alignment.
i mean it kinda is, never thought it could be a twisted frame but it makes sense.

this truck is looking BEAST! glad you stuck with the 1.55's. the 1.9 looked ok but 1.55 almost always look better on these, imo.
I'm glad I stuck with the 1.55 too. Fits the overall look of my rig better.

Re: Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

Maybe that’s an Alberta thing? LOL. You know when you follow a truck on a road and the front & rear axles aren’t aligned because the frame is twisted? Like they are offset - like how a dogs legs are when they run?

Just is typical of an old truck that’s been run hard.

It doesn't always mean a twisted frame, here in the states it's usually a broken spring perch that moves one side of a rear axle either forward or back that causes a dog-leg.

Nice job on the rack, Rick "thumbsup"

Finally got the final color laid down. It's military camo sand.

Purchased a Tamiya weathering kit yesterday. Put a little rust and ugly on Ole Heavy. Plus got a set of these sweet Va license plates on the way

Sweet plates! Nice work on the weathering too. Funny thing, like 2 weeks ago my son said he wanted a camo sand flat color for his square body ;)
He likes the used look and approves of yours when I showed him "thumbsup"

Took Ole Heavy out to get some sun yesterday but I think the sun got me lol. It's too dam hot!!! It was a fun drive while it lasted. If you notice Ole Heavy got some new cab roof lights now. Got them from Harry's Wheel Shop on Shapeways. I think they look great.

I'm scale crazy too. This build has been in the works for almost 3 yrs. It was made from 4 rc4wd blazer bodies and 3d printed parts. Got about $500 just in the body. So it not cheap. But if you're patient and know what you want, you can build it. A great build starts with a great imagination. I found most of my parts on eBay so you should start there

And thanks for the compliments

Re: Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

Did a little work on Ole Heavy. Got the headlights and marker lights colored and installed. Used a yellow and orange Sharpie to color the marker lights inside then sanded and weathered the outside to give them a used look. Also tinted the headlights yellow. Why?....... Because I could lol. Really like how they turned out

Re: Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

The clearance lights on the roof, and the long lug nuts give the truck that realistic appearance. The yellowed headlight lenses will look better at night, especially if you're using LED's behind to give it that drained battery/weak alternator look. Nice work Rick "thumbsup"

Thanks man. I'm planning on installing LEDs eventually. Didn't think anyone would notice the longer wheel studs. I really like them. Good I for detail bro

Re: Project: 78' Chevy K20 Long Bed "Ole' Heavy"

Been a while since I posted any progress on my Ole Heavy build. Got a Facebook page "Square Headz RC" that I've been trying to maintain and it takes a lot of my time. Some progress made but still a long ways to go. I painted the wheels to match the body. Changed out the tires to Rc4wd 1.55 Mud Slingers. Don't know how they preform yet but I really like the look. Decided to drop my scratch built Cummins turbo diesel under the hood. Redoing the shock locations to look more period correct. And made a canvas cover for the bed. Still have to redo the drivetrain, finish the engine bay, and build the interior. Real happy how Ole Heavy is turning out but like I said still a long way to go.
