Project "Tombstone" R.I.P "Rest In Pieces"

I'm building this to best perform in a G6 style event. With that in mind, this is my first custom chassis and first go at welding. This won't be a quick build by any means. And in case you were wondering where I came up with the name.... from the 1993 film "Tombstone".

Started on the frame this weekend. Chopped it up, raised the front section of the frame to better clear panhard bar and whatnot. Fabbed some quick and dirty front shock hoops and tubed the rear. Comments and advice/ opinions welcome!

not bad so far , those braces should hold as long as your welds are good. whats your wheelbase gonna be?

Never thought of raising the fronted. Welds look pretty good.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of welding some sheet metal over those braces to give them a cleaner look.

not bad so far , those braces should hold as long as your welds are good. whats your wheelbase gonna be?

As of now the wheelbase would be a hefty 14.5 but I think i want it more like 14 or 13.5. I guess I'll see how the turning is at 14.5 first.

Got some of the cage tacked on. Still need to finish roof, doors, sliders and rear upper tubework. And yes I know a few of the welds look like ****. But thats what a sander is for.

Try turning your wire speed down a bit. It should help reduce some of the bigger globs and save grinding time.

Thanks Corey, I was also very glad to see Crawlmaro do as well as it did.

Some update on the chassis. Next I will tackle the "Tombstone" front bumper. Stay tuned.

I weld my frame and main cagework, then I use Silver solder to solder in the small cage detail pieces. Just my personal technique thoughts.

I've just been tacking it all together in case I wanted to change something.
After I can get it tacked enough to make it a roller and check for clearance, I'll either braze or silver solder it.

Couple things today, added on to the rear of the sliders, started on the Tombstone bumper, and added some supports. 1972 Chevy panels.

If youre on c you should be fine. Slow your feed down some, and make sure when youre slingin sparks it sounds like bacon frying. The less wire you have hanging out of the gun when you start your weld the better penetration youre goimg to get.

Disclaimer: i have only been welding for a couple 6 months, i am not by any means a pro welder, just passing on what ive found to work best for me. Hope it helps buddy! Youve done a brilliant job so far, keep it up! "thumbsup"

Thanks Rodamis and Colby! I appreciate and note any advice I can get.

I plan to dump a fuel cell in the rear but I've seen very few that truly look scale, may be a ways down the road. Axles are in, Pics soon.

Got the rear axle built. Vanquish scx10 housing, truss, lock outs and blue link mounts. The rc4wd red ARB diff cover hides the HD ring & pinion, hot racing spool with fast eddy bearings throughout.
