Proline 2.2 Moab Review!!!!!!!!!!

wow, do these things grab! in places where the Swamp Pups would just give up and spin, these Moabs dig right in. if only one wheel has traction, the rig moves forward. if you get in a jam, just wiggle the steering back and forth and these things will find traction as if by magic. even the sidebiters will move the truck along the ground if it falls over on its side.

my secret ingredient: the "crown of thorns" cut on the foams:

these tires take all the challenge out of crawling. the only time i couldn't move was when the rig flipped on its roof. THANK YOU PRO-LINE!

They're a combination of two Duratrax wheels. the center section comes from the Max MT, the rims from the Max ST (or the other way round). the wheels that the centers come from are 2.5 inches, so i cut 'em up and put the 2.2 rims on, and changed the offset while i was at it. then wrapped 3 oz of lead around each one. i really like the way they look with the Moabs.

i could take the low road and say the Vaseline is there because the 2.2s are tight fit, but at this point, anything i say regarding lubrication will be misinterpreted, so instead i'll ask YOU, Jason, why you have such a fixation about my jar of Vaseline? :flipoff:

just another example of a thread that has (or rather, had) technical merit going down the drain into chit-chat.

y'all are perverts!

nice foams... how well do they work?... i have masher 2ks and sometimes i wish i had foams and other times no... u kno what some rc company need to come up with... a tubed tire and rim set... u just have a little pump to keep a little psi in it...

shocks me, no. it disturbs me because i enjoy it so much.

the "crown of thorns" works very well. stiff in the sidewalls and squishy in the tread. highly reccommended.

thanks for getting this thread back to tires, btw

Ya i used the stock foams cut in half width wise and did a star pattern but I'm going to pull out the foams and run something smaller. It bounces too much and I think the tires would work better with more of a tread patch. I also took them to "the mini hammers" today for a very hot test. I had slightly lengthend my WB and lowered my center clearance but they worked very well. In "the bowl" (a very tough climb) I walked it and not just taking the one line but 4 different lines. Thats pretty sweet. The beer can line has changed. When I got there the rock making the line tough was gone. So I moved it back and it broke so it's been tweaked a bit but still very tough and maybe I'll change the name to can opener because it did a # on the body.

well at least u didnt break an axle housing 2 days b 4 a rockcrwaling trip and had no spares!!!

I have a spare if you want to pay me to replace it and shipping I'll send it to ya tomorrow.

I've been cutting foams like that forever.....
I just don't think it works on the 2.2 Moabs. Too much foam.... and we proved it at the raffle. No foams seems to work best at this point. You just have to get the right combination of air in the tires.

I got my 2.2 moabs in at the store a couple of days ago-gotta love managing a hobby shop (first dibs hahaha). Mine came from a back order at Horizon. Great Planes says that they will be in sometime next week so Tower should have them available in a week or so. I just looked at horizon's site and they have them in stock. I tried em with no foams but they are way to soft. I was digging through some foams at the shop and came across some 2.2 buggy foams from trinity:

They worked great. Had just enough height in the foam to support the sidewall below the side lugs but allowed plenty flex from the contact patch. I went wheelin with my buddy last nite and tried my TLT on a few hill climbs and rock sites we run real jeeps on and they were unstoppable. My TLT made it up 2 hill climbs that his TJ on 37 inch baja claws couldn't make it up. I never once had to stop, reverse, or anything. They worked way better than my m2ks ever have.

i'm running mine with no foam and 4 small air holes in the wheel. these tires work way beyond my expectations! if the tire starts to lose traction, just turn the wheel a little bit and it grabs again.

Okay, I jump on the "2.2 MOAB" band wagon also... after seeing that the moab was basically the same diameter as the M2K I had to get a set. So that day after I read the article I went down to the LHS and ordered a set. Well actually it was the next day since my LHS is closed on Mondays........ And they came in today. So I will try them in this weekends ORCRC comp.

i dont know if its me , the pictures or the video, that ive seen of the moabs. but they look like there smaller than a masher 2k , they look more like swamp dawg size to me.
but i am sure that they probably work better than mashers and the swampers, so looks like ill have to get some too.

The moabs to me look to be about 1/16" smaller in diameter then my M2K's... but I don't have the rims moded yet or the moabs glued.
