RECON G6 write up/results

It’s lonely here in this padded room. I’m not sure how I ended up here. I remember the sounds of over head aircraft, water running thru hollow rock, transmissions exploding into chocolate chips. Scalers driving in footie bunny pajamas, Spucknit voted mayor in 3 counties, Axial Racing’s Rodney Wills giving the mad scientist the key to the vault and some inspired G6 finishers receiving a dose of unreleased goodness, OOOHHHHHHHH, THE MADDNESS!

That’s it, the “Maddness”! I remember now, it was the RECON G6 Challenge Maddness held at Rock Park in Sparks, NV. There were drivers and teams and repairs and there was fun, a Chilean bus load of fun. This G6 featured two stages with a combined total of 300 trail markers and some new challenges. Stage one treated drivers to a section of rock that was outlined with a trail marker boundary; hit the boundary and receive a five minute time penalty. Stage one also had a time bonus option. Drivers had to choose to drive a tight and technical wooded bonus where hitting a boundary was highly likely or they could drive a 120 foot long drain pipe know as the G6 tunnel of love. The risk with the G6 tunnel of love was that if you had to use the recovery winch, it was the same penalty as hitting a boundary.

Stage two was an adventure stage. Two hundred trail markers guided and sometimes misguided the drivers thru an array of trails, mud, and even ventured into the Truckee River. Sand was a formidable foe, but nothing like the huge mounds of mulch that drivers had to climb over. Some drivers made short work of these mounds of tree debris, while others pulled winch line. Stage two drivers completed the stage in an average time just over an hour and some change.

The G6 drivers, beautiful drivers, drivers do work; work is easy in a room of marshmallows. Wait, remained focused, G6 drivers, yes, yes! The Maddness welcomed drivers from Nor-Cal and Nevada with a healthy dose of scale challenge. I would like to thank all the drivers that came out and challenged themselves in the G6. The same drivers pushed their scalers to new levels and a lot of drivers left rubber on rock in search of that rare gem called traction. A great job was done by all the drivers in policing the trails of trash. Leaving the park cleaner than we found it is not only healthy for the environment, but helps ensure that we will always have a place to G6 in the future.

Axial Racing stepped up HUGE by thanking the G6 drivers for their hard work and support with finishing prizes. Tom Swanson stayed sane thru all the Maddness and drove his Axial Dingo straight to the top of the podium. Tom walked away with the RECON G6 Maddness win and in doing so; Axial Racing awarded Tom an Axial Racing XR-10. Congratulations Tom, your patience and ability to pace yourself, minimize your mistakes, and ability to drive the skills sections is something to be admired.

Congrats to Thom K. and Chad C.; they filled the number 2 and 3 spots on the podium. Team Twerk consisted of Smoke-n-Mirrors and Newcrawler. They drove, well okay, wrenched Lil’ Lexus to first place in the Team Division. Great job guys and I could not have asked for to better drivers or mechanics to take my Axial Honcho, Lil’ Lexus the project princess to the top of the podium.

Thank you, Axial Racing, Vanquish Products, TCS, HC&M Hobbies*, Pit Bull Tires, and Gold Country Hardware & Hobbies; your support of the G6 in very much appreciated. Thank you to the RECON Crew, Spucknit, Chasinbaja, Unibomber, Sumquack, and Recovery Cody. The work that you put in behind the scenes is never taken for granted. Keep it up! Last but not least, a big thank you to the men and women that I call “Drivers”. Ya’ll are the heart and soul of the G6.

The RECON G6 Challenge Maddness was a blast. I would like to here some G6 Stage stories. Let everyone know what you faced on your G6 adventure. It helps reading; these walls are closing in on me. Big pillows of fluffiness creating a shield of 2800 count cotton pillow cases protecting me from pain. Pain is good, pain is great, and a cattle prod to the arches of my feet is needed. Needed is results, okay, results, I can do it. Typing in a straight jacket is not that difficult, someone, anyone, are you out there. Please, I need my fix, my scaler fix in another RECON G6.

*HC&M Hobbies of Sparks, Nevada donated the “Dead Ass Last” fifty dollar gift certificate that went to G6 Challenger, Curtis H. Thank you Mark and you have no where to from here Curt, but up. Good luck in your next G6.

Here are the results from the RECON G6 Maddness;

Hello G6 Madness crew and participants! Rodney Wills / Axial Inc., here.

Brain Parker + RECON CREW - THANK YOU!"thumbsup"
G6 MADNESS Participants - THANK YOU!!!
"thumbsup"

I HAD A BLAST!

I had a long, but fun trip back home. It was 1,049.3 miles round trip from Orange County CA to Reno, NV and back to CA with several side trips along the HWY395, so my G6MADNESS had some 1:1 Overland Adventure bits thrown in for good measure. Yes, these side trips included photos and video of some R/C action, that will come soon enough.

G6M-Photo's will get loaded to the Axial Flickr site first on Tuesday [hopefully as you never know what is going to happen at the office on any given day!]. I will write up my little story and post on our blog and I will jump some photos into the thread here as well.

As far as the video, editing takes time and will come when it comes. I have a ton of footage to edit through THANKS TO YOU THE G6MADNESS PARTICIPANTS!!!

It was a blast to watch you guys attack the course and watch how each of you technically manuvered your way through the BP-Course Design MADNESS! This style of course design and event is my personal favorite as I am all about the adventure of the unknown!

Thanks again!!!

no rodney, thank you bud! you and axial rock!
parker, you are the only madman that can have nightmare's and still build fun!

OH MY! :lmao: Ok I read somewhere that Brian Parker should write a book on rc crawling. I guess since he's gotten bitten by the scale bug this could be his second book :ror: I didn't see any mention about a time bonus option. About a 50+ foot culvert! I made it though but it didn't cross my mind to stick my head in to see better. The only picture I got was after I had completed both courses and was watching some of the other drivers doing work "thumbsup" Mike S doing work baby.

For you guys thinking about doing a RECON G6 in the future this is the stuff parker comes up with :lmao:. AWESOME and a bunch of fun. I've noticed the NV recon guys not getting to run the last couple of events. If you need some of us to cover you guys so you can run just say the word and we are there "thumbsup" Thanks guys.

And again a big thank you to Rodney and axial, unexpected swag "thumbsup"

 Oh my! Oh my! Mike See or is that Mike See-in the dark? :lmao:

Thank you fvrr, R.E.C.O.N. is for drivers, by drivers and I really appreciate the fact that every scaler has a blast and I know that we have as much fun watching ya'll "do work" as we do driving.

If needed, I will take you up on the offer. Thank you.

See you in Vegas.

Had a blast!!!! Thanks AXIAL for the cool swag!!!!!!! Randy has already mounted the new ripsaws on his scaler ( even though I won them ) and we figured out how to put together the axial transmission cover. and a big woooohoooooo to me no time penalties for me on course 28) but def need a faster rig to cut my time down, i was walking faster then my rig could go flat out:roll: I almost stepped on it a few times. can wait for the next one hopefully Randy will be back to work soon and we can join you all in Vegas for the G6 and to celebrate my birthday too

Nice pics! Anybody else have any?

I've got a few...say about 260!!!

Seeing as I was still waiting on parts from Hong Kong, I came to this G6 as RC photographer and recovery assistant and it was just as much a thrill as if I had run all the courses myself. Parker was kind enough to put me and Cody aka Newcrawler in the driver seat of Lil' Lexus, so to speak. In between stage buddying and picture time, I was able to run the Yellow 100 gate course. The thing that stands out to me most was the G6 Tunnel of Love. It was either a shot in the dark [tunnel] or a zig-zag skills section that almost guaranteed a boundary penalty. Was it worth the risk to enter the tunnel? Well I was driving Parker's rig so HELL YEAH it was! :flipoff: I also scored the new Axial spur gear cover in a raffle. Couldn't have asked for a better time.

As always my hat goes off to Parker and the G6 crew! You guys rock my socks every time I come out to the challenge. I could go on for days singing your praises and yapping about the excitement, but I know what y'all are dying for, so on to the pictures. Tally Ho!
