R2J builds a C2 Venture

Been away for a bit but couldn't stay away long it seems. :lmao: I've always liked venturing out, no pun intended, trying the different brand rigs available, but always came back to old reliable Axial. However, the Venture looks to be very well thought out by HPI and appears that it will be a very good performing platform to base a competitive scale rig on.

So looking to attend Zia Scale Nationals this year in New Mexico, I needed to build a new C2 rig and luckily found this Venture locally for a steal, $100 RTR! It had a broken chub and missing dog bone and was pretty dirty, but definitely had potential. After disassembly, cleaning and making the small repairs needed, I got it up and running.

Plan of attack begins......

Parts list:
- Radio- Spektrum DX5R
- ESC-Castle MambaX
- Motor-Holmes brushless 540 Trail Master 3300kv
- Servo- Spektrum S6280
- Servo Winch- ?
- Tires- Pit Bull 1.9 Rock Beasts
- Foam- Pit Bull Dirty Richard 4.5 x 1.5 Leaner (medium)
- Wheels- LURC Trail Ready A08 w/Agile rings
- HPI Universals
- Beef Tubes (front)
- STRC Brass Chubs
- STRC Brass Knuclkes
- HPI Brass axle weights (rear)
- Bow House printed skid
- R2j Kustoms stainless links 12.25" wheelbase
- LURC scale hardware
- Stock drive train
- RC4WD TF2 Yota cab and cab back
- RC4WD TF2 round headlight grille
- RC4WD interior
- R2j Kustoms custom sliders and stainless tube truggy back half
- More to come.....

How it sits now waiting for the cab to get here. Going to make up a set of my FSL-2 Sliders for the Cruiser body and possibly offer link sets for it.

Chubs, knuckles and skid came in today so found some time to throw them in along with the beef tubes.

The Bow House skid is quite nice and I had zero issues installing. Only thing I did was drill the link mount and t-case holes with an 1/8" bit to clean them up. Drive shafts clear better than the stock skid and you loose the bump that hangs down from the bottom. Nice and smooth now.

And always the Beef Tube fit as they should and the STRC brass chubs and knuckle fit perfect and have a nice black finish.

Let the transformation begin. Starting with pinching the front.

what is the benefit of that printed skid over the hpi skid? (other than losing the fake transfer case bump on the bottom)

Loosing the bump, it seemed to get hung up, and preference. I would rather have it flat like that.

Body is mounted so I can start the tube work. Liking the grille set up like this, may change yet, but for now I'm thinking of filling in between the grille and fenders then add a couple of lights in the filler.

Oh I'm liking where this is going. That grill could get interesting, looking forward to something different.

Looks a like a cool build so far. Cant wait too see it finished.

Agreed. This is a nice build. I have ordered the same skid for my kit.

I like mine so far, we'll see how it holds up on the rocks. And with all printed parts, don't over tighten and I like to clean up the holes with a drill bit."thumbsup"

I may look at building one out of Delrin down the road.

I have the skid coming, was hoping to see it yesterday along with his battery mount. I was nervous about it being printed but after looking into other parts holding up to abuse I figured it should be able to handle it but if you make a Delrin skid mark me down for one.

I ordered the High Res version from Shapeways. A bit more expensive, but should be good. I have some shapeways parts on my Twin Hammers and they are well made.

Test fitted the RC4WD detailed interior to make sure the ESC and battery fit. Looking good! Plenty of room to mount the battery and a servo winch on the slider/body mounts. Also received the new Spektrum 6280 steering servo. Going to run it at 8.4v to achieve 496oz/in.
