Rat rods pics!!

what I don't understand is how are rat rods road legal....

Until some some years ago, I thought any kind of vehicle was legal in the US.
When people here talked about towing their 1:1 crawlers to the crawling site, that's when I understood that there are some laws in place.

I am still wondering how are those Chopper bikes legal? Some of them have outlandish rake on the front fork which can be dangerous. Then some have handles kissing the sky..The rider has his hands up in the air ..:lmao:

Depending on what year the vehicle is registered as, it may not need seat belts, blinkers, or even windshield wipers. For example, my '30 Model A only came with a single brake light and that's all I'm required to run. I'll be adding blinkers, though.
Makes sense my Merc had no seatbelts but i was able to plate it, the wipers were vacuum operated..lol

for one no fenders covering the tires, number two, open headers....
Im guessing that might vary state to state..in the end to quote Maynard James Keenan "its only wrong if you get caught"..lol

I got a buddy that had a model A pick up that was a rat rod/ more traditional rod.next to a 6' guy it would come up to his chest, and rode about an inch or so off the ground, cops loved it and always gave him thumbs up"thumbsup" i have no idea how he got it plated and insured

The modern choppers are not as bad as the old school choppers, the newer designs have better geometry(rake and trail)..still not great to make quick turns but less dangerous than the 70s bikes..i had an old school(uneducated:lmao:) triumph daytona chopper with a springer front end..death trap..lol

I was pulled over a few times in my merc just because the popo thought it was cool..never really got hassled"thumbsup"
i think though it would all depend who pulled you over..some cops have no sense of fun/adventure..lol, the other day was getting some drive time in the regal..im cruising along and a cop pulls up beside me and starts yelling he can seize my car for 3 days for squeeling the tires that he said he heard me do from blocks away:roll:..not within sight:roll:..um ok sir ill be good:ror:

We use to get that a lot in our street racing days.one nite we were racing but no cop was around to see, but eventually one showed up and it wasnt one of the cool ones that would circle our spot as a sign to leave.so he gets out and told us if he seen rubber on our quarters he'd write us tickets and at that point i was wishing i had a black and gold hurstolds rather then my white and gold:lmao: thankfully i had my CDL,so i was knocking the street racing off, i was there just to watch"thumbsup"

The only benefit to living in California is no inspection and anything Pre 1974 no smog either. So anything older than 1974 comes down to the cop on the road and how much he wants to be a dick.
California just wants your money, if its just registered then they are happy.

My 59 has no front seat belts, horn, backup lights, front turn signals, wipers, side mirrors, muffler, or front plate, and parts of the car are lower than the bottom of the rim. But no hassles from the cops.

figures, that's cal for ya  :lmao: ....but yet they want all kinds of non pollution crap stopped, I read shit on labels "could cause cancer" in cal  ....

and you knew who the ASS was "thumbsup" ....
Ya it was a bit of a stretch on his part..i hardly spun the tires to begin with..turning right on a steep hill and got my opening and took it..new posi, new gearing, goosed it slightly..yup some cops are just looking to generate revenue. It would not of stood up in court but imagine i could of lost my car for some days if i argued too much.

:lmao:

Some times you get to excited to think about legal ! I have been working on a 1960 dodge crew cab truck . We got it running new motor clutch etc....
So rolled back and fourth tested brakes , worked to a point. " HOP IN ! "
Got back to the house , Tag was in house , tail lights not hooked up. no grill or headlights, seat belts in box in back seat , front seat not bolted down .
Glad I did not pass a cop.
IMPORTANT stuff , worked great , no leaks and nothing fell off !!!!!!!!!!
