Remove motor from Hitec HS-645MG Servo

Hey guys,

I have a question about the hitec 645MG. I must have dropped off a big ledge or something and I thought the gears were stripped, which I've rarely ever seen happen on a metal gear servo, but it was making a grinding noise and wasnt very strong.


So I opened it up just to check and surprisingly there were no stripped gears. I plugged it in and tried to make it move and nothing happened when I put some pressure on the servo horn. It SEEMS like the pinion gear on the motor is loose. I can stop the pinion from turning by touching it.

*The problem is, I can't seem to get the motor out to check. Are there any tricks to doing this? I don't see any screws holding it in there. Any help is appreciated.

I haven't taken apart a 645 for a while, but if I recall, the motor is pressed into the servo case.

It might be glued to the side of the case. trying to take it out could break the board if your not really careful. is the motor turning?

Yeah the motor is turning but the pinion is not. The board is not attached to the case so I'm not worried about breaking it. The servo is screwed either way so I might as well try and fix it. The worst thing that happens is my already dead servo stays dead...
