I had the wheels off my CR-01 for the first time last night and was surprised to see that two of the stock plastic hex hubs were chewed up pretty good. They were also firmly stuck to the stock plastic wheels.
To the internet! Searches yielded nothing - the closest I came were situations where the hex hubs had remained on the axle shafts and had to be pried loose. I tried a number of methods with no luck and left them to soak in some WD-40 while I pondered the matter.
Here's one of the hubs:

Hex hub - messed up
It finally occurred to me to try threading a machine screw into the hub centre. I had some #10-24s on hand:

#10-24 machine screw
It was a simple matter to thread the screw into the hub - just a little pressure with a #2 Robertson:

Machine screw threaded into hex hub
Once the screw was in, a little wiggling and tugging on it popped the hex hubs right out.
FYI, the Traxxas TRX1654 is a direct replacement.
