We are getting ready to start a rock race series. Wanted to see if anyone has done this yet and what rules you are using. Also any other info on how you're running the events. Thanks for the help."thumbsup"

We are going to do a King if the Hammers race and am wondering the same thing. To keep it fair, since we have some newb's and or poor people(myself included) we'd keep it brushed and lipo-less. I figure everyone has a lathe motor lying around and some NiHm's on hand. Our comp will be a 1.9 race

Here's what I came up with for some simple rules

So my idea for the rules in the King of Mini Hammers is this:

I'll design a long course, much longer than any other crawling course before. It'll have some knarly rock sections some high speed sections and some stuff in between.

Rig: No rig will be able to run a multi geared transmisson, batteries will be limited to 6 or 7 cell stick packs or 2s lipos. We need to keep it far. I'd like to limit it to brushed motors too. All other 1.9 rules apply. I doubt we'll worry about scale points since it's a timed event. What are your thoughts?

Race: It will be a timed event. Due to the lack of judges and contestants we'll one rig at a time. The course will consist of gates to guide the drivers to the finish. Bonus gates will also be spread out thru the course. The bonus gates will give the drivers a time deduction of 30 sec. for each gate cleanly progressed thru. Any roll-over/touch that can't be driven out of will cost the drivers a 30 sec. penalty. Fastest time wins.

We had a hammers like race not to long ago, i didnt go to it but what the rules were were 2.2 usrcca rules apply accept the 1.9 class you use 1.9 wheels of course. Each driver had a a judge who would mark them for role overs and stuff like that. Then theyd switch and the previous driver judged. This worked cuz i think the course was like a mile long and took a while to complete. Hope that helps or gives ideas

I would say the 1.9 rules should be set up as follows

1, Vehicle wheelbase is limited to a maximum of 10 inches. This is determined by measuring
from centerline of front axle stub to centerline of rear axle stub, with all the wheels pointing straight
ahead, with the vehicles suspension holding it's own weight.
2. Vehicle track width is limited to a maximum of 8 inches. This is determined by measuring the
bottom of the outer most edge of the front and rear tires while the vehicle is sitting on level ground
3. Vehicle is limited to 1.9 inch wheels/rims or smaller at the bead surface. Wheels may be
modified provided that the tire bead surface does not exceed 1.9 inches in diameter. Tires may be
modified from other sized tires using only a pliable rubber but must not exceed a total uncompressed
outer diameter of 4.25 inches.
4. Vehicles are limited to 2-wheel steering on front axle only.
5. Vehicles are limited to the use of 2 channels radio control (one for steering & one for throttle)
only. Neither channel can be used to perform more than one function. Radio systems with more than
2 channels are allowed but only 2 channels can be used to control the vehicle.
6. Vehicles are limited to 1 ESC & 1 servo only.
7. Vehicles are limited to 1 motor powering both of the axles.
8. No driver controlled devices, other than steering and throttle control, will be allowed.
Independent throttle control to the front or rear axles (“burn” or “dig”), winching down the axles, and
forced articulation are not allowed in this class.
9. Batteries are to 9.6 nominal voltage (8 cell nimh/nicd & 2 cell lipo/limoly).
10. 1.9 Rock Racer class bodiless overall dimension of the complete chassis must be at least
6.75" overall length, 2.5" overall width, and 3.25" overall height.
11. If at any point during a run your vehicle falls out of these vehicle specs for any reason you
will be required to take a touch penalty and correct the problem.
12. Motors are limited to brushed type only.

I basically took the 1.9 crawler rules and reworked them to fit racing. Having longer runs, and more time at high speed is why I increased the battery count. I think it would be best to limit it to brushless motors, and run this as a straight up time trial race. Fastest to finish wins.

Penalties should go like this

1. All vehicles must start in the desgnated starting area.
2. All vehicles must stay on the course at all times. Deviating from the designated course is a 10 second penalty. If the rig leaves the course, the driver must place his vehicle at the point where his rig left the course. The rig can either be driven to the exit point, or picked up an placed there. Picking up the rig will result in a standard rollover penalty.
3. Driver may not alter the course by way of human contact. If the driver intentionally alters the course, he must stop his rig, fix the course to original condition and is awarded a 10 second penalty
4. Vehicles will be ran one at a time. If time does not permit, there will be a five minute seperation between starts.
5. In the event of vehicle breakage, the driver must retrieve his rig immediatly from the course and take a 15 second penalty in addition to the amount of time he was off the course during the repairs. If the rig cannot be repaired in less than 10 minutes the driver will recieve a DNF. The driver shall not place his rig back on the track so as to block, or slow the progress of another vehicle. Doing so will result in an automatic DNF.
6. In the event of a rollover, if the vehicle can be righted without touching, there is no penalty. Should the rig require contact to turn back over onto its drive wheels, then a 10 second penalty will be awarded to the driver.
7. Reverse. There will be no penalty for reversing direction. As this is a timed event, if the driver choose to reverse his vehicle then that is his choice and his time.
8. Gates. Gates are not to be touched or driven over. If a gate is touched, the driver will take a 10 second penalty

And thats what I think

Why not just base the rules from the 1:1 class? Do they have rig regulations and wb limits? Somone chime in because I don't know. I would think you would want to keep the rules very simple so people can have fun.

I say just separate the 1.9s from the 2.2s, keep dig out, brushless systems and be done with it. The actual scoring system is whole different animal "thumbsup"

Here are the Colorado rock race rules we made up about a year and a half ago.
For simplicity sake and fun we have not used them yet this year."thumbsup"
So rock race class rules (heres what I am thinking).
-limited to tube based scale rigs
-14" max wheel base
-2.2 wheels
-tire no taller then 6.5
-12.5 inches wide, no more then.
-rear steer optional
-no winching
-same body/tuber size rules as 2.2 class
Course set up and points lay out
-Single truck run at a time(possibly two at a time)
-rope lines both sides outlining direction
- reversing will cost no points or time
- winner is determined by lowest overall time
- 3 courses per comp then top 5 finals course
- if ropeline is broken by whole truck, a time penalty will be given of 10 seconds.
- if truck must be rolled over a 10 second penalty will be given
- no repairs will be given during a course run
-if course is not finished a 2 minute penalty will be given on top of slowest time.
-course will be 36 inches wide at the narrowest point
-Caution tape for rope lines.(may change)
-its a timed event counting up best time wins, but i also figure we time it depending on how long the course are going to be. (like 2.2). AKA timing out is a possibilty.

This so far is the new modifiyed rules from back in December (2007)when we ran the first comp."thumbsup"
Hopefully Ill have more photos of the buggy soon I got most of the decals on it yesterday. Thanks again Jason

I ran this event with BPRC last Saturday and it was awesome! "thumbsup"

2 racers racing head to head alteranting courses. The starting line funneled both drivers into the same hill climb before they would branch off into their separate gates. This made for some fun tactics right out of the gate.
Yeah Yeah, we did somethig similar to that earlier this summer.

It did not feel very organized to me, but it was alot of fun.
