When you have a need for power that isn't satisfied by normal brushed motor, it is time to step it up a notch with a precision built Handwound! The Holmes Hobbies Handwound 540 (HHH) is a hand built Pro-level 540 with all of the features found in a Mod motor.

* Hand-Wound Armature – Our pro-level armatures feature a pattern hand-wound team wind with specific wire sizes developed for today’s high-output LiPo or Ni-MH batteries. All armatures are soldered using high-tech solder and then are epoxy coated with the latest state-of-the-art epoxy resin. All armatures are then pro-spec precision drill balanced and the commutator is diamond trued. All armatures are stamped with wind.
* Laydown Brush Hoods & 9mm Comm – Maximizes rpm potential with plenty of torque for crawling and bashing.
* 2 Magnet Can – The 1.4mm thick can features high-power FB9 wet magnets.

**Suggested use**
10t- Lots of speed, lots of power, and believe it or not you can still crawl. R2 tranny gets the best geardown.
17t- Plenty of speed for most rigs, works well with stock ax-10 geardown. Fairly mild mannered.
25t- Not too fast, about 250% faster than a 55t motor. It can be geared up and volted up for plenty of speed still, but amp draw isn't crazy on stock AX-10 type of gearing. 15C 2100 packs can marginally get by, but cycle life will be reduced. 20C 2100 packs are better suited.


Suggested batteries- Sub C really works best, or large lipo of 3000mah or higher. The 10t presents the most issue with battery, it really asks for a lot. More research is needed to see where the lipo threshold is.


Motor speeds (taken from random and averaged sample):
10t = 6526 rpm/volt
15t = 4317 rpm/volt
17t = 3753 rpm/volt
20t = 3216 rpm/volt
21t = 3082 rpm/volt
23t = 2790 rpm/volt
25t = 2588 rpm/volt

Will a 15t with either the max or sidewinder be faster and torquier then my ss5800 on sub c 6 and 7 cells? using it on my street tt 01.

I can't say since I don't have specs or experience with the 5800 motor. I can tell you it will be slower.

hey jrh, have you done anymore testing with the 10t or a little lower turn motor (15t???) to see how batteries fair,esp. lipos?

Yes I have. What voltage do you plan to run, and what type of wheelspeed in what rig? The vehicle weight and final speed have a lot to do with what the batteries need to deliver.

well i was looking for something close to a castle 5700 motor but with a little more uumph in the lower end if i decided to do a little crawling with it. I was thinking of a 11.1v lipo.

as far as weight, i am not sure how much it is going to weight but i am hoping to keep it light (so around 5 lbs give or take some). it is going to be a 2.2 tuber

I would recommend a 11 to 13 turn for similar speed, and you will have more low speed control and torque just because it is brushed. You will need a pretty big battery, I would suggest no smaller than a 3700 25C- bare minimum. The Elite 4800 packs from cheapbatterypacks are a killer deal right now, plus they fit where a standard sub-C pack fits.

thanks for the advice. Now between motors are you really going to see a difference between the 13 and the 11T in top end and low end??

Geared for the same top speed, the 11t would have more punch and less runtime. The 13t will certainly have plenty of power though. I would err to the 13t to keep things just a bit cooler.

Well I got my 35T 540 last thursday. Thanks for the fast shipping and great product!!! Thanks to you my MIP CVD's didnt stand a chance.

I did that to two of them. The first was within about 3 seconds to running the motor for the first time. The 2nd took about a hour or so. When I had bought the motor I was planning on running the R2D2 with the 8T pinion that trans comes with. But since then I have bought the GC-2 chassis and the chassis just wont let me use that trans. Just not enough room. So now I have to go with the axial trans and VF dig. Right now I am running the stock 14T pinion. The motor has plenty of torque so far for crawling and I get great wheelspeed when I need to bump up something. But I did notice the motor runs pretty warm. After running it for about 30 minutes or so i can only keep my hand on it a few seconds before it gets to hot. Should I change pinions? Right now I am running 6 cell packs but will be upgrading to 7 cells in the future.
