rocksliders or no rocksliders

I have the RC4WD Sliders. The quality is incredible. However they do like to act like a pole vault. They will stick into a rock and just not budge. Dropping off a ledge is the biggest issue. Despite that drawback, I haven't seen too many rigs on the rocks (1:1) without sliders or some type of panel protection. I know I would NEVER wheel my 1:1 with no sliders, that said, if you are going full scale, leave the sliders on. If you don't care and just want to tear up stuff and have fun...take em off and listen to that lexan vs rock battle! I'm not a fan of the SCX-10 with no sliders, looks like something is missing.

A new lexan body is $30. I couldnt care less if it gets torn up. Ive had probably 10 bodies on my scx, they always crack up front and at the back LONG before anything happens anywhere else, plus i get bored with the look so it gets changed up regularly.
I wouldnt run a 1:1 on a hard trail without sliders either, this isnt 1:1 wheeling.
As for the rc4wd sliders, they are not great, my buddy broke one of his off and i had to weld it back together. He had 4 runs on his truck but he runs his truck hard like i do so things break. I also dont like the design, the straight ends get caught all the time. Mine are holding but are gettin bent up and will pull out of the frame mounts like his did soon im sure. Ill reweld them when they fail. I run them because like you said, it makes the truck more realistic for sure.

I run the stock sliders but I cut off the side steps of the sliders and made it just a rail instead. They now have a lower profile and fit through tighter spots.

I ended up taking the sliders off my truck. It was a very big job. I had to do some other work on it anyways. I was going to do a motor swap to a 85 turn but it would have way to low of top speed for me. It gives mega long battery life though.

what is "mega long battery life"? i get a minimum of 4 hours hard-use from my scaler with only 2s 5000mAh LiPo and a 35t. By that time, I'm just about done physically from trying to keep up and all the walking.

As for sliders, they definitely have a purpose in the 1:1 world, but for an RC I think its really subjective and depends on what you're doing. For me, I chose to go very scale with my whole rig and my sliders had to be designed just like they'd be on a 1:1 (like not sticking above the door jamb, etc) - but now that I've had them on there I notice at times it's the sliders that hang me up in narrow crevices since they're rigid, whereas someone who doesn't have them just squeezes right through since the lexan body can contort. So I guess the point is that it really comes down to what you want to do with your rig - be a scaler and realism be priority, or be a crawler where performance is priority and scale is 2nd.
