rx pack alternative?

4- rechargeables = 4.8volts
4- Regular batteries= 6 volts.

Neither should be too much. Alot of people run 6 volts on there servos.

You can, but keep in mind 4 alkaline batteries would give you 6 volts, while 4 rechargeable batteries would only provide 4.8 volts. You won't get by with 4.8 volts, so the 4 alkalines would get rather expensive.

alright, ive got the holder, 4 alkaline batteries and a wire with end cut off of a servo. i assume the red goes to red and black to black, but what do i do with the white wire?

Well, it depends on the receiver but white is usually the signal wire. Have you ever ran a receiver pack? If not there are some other things you need to know before you smoke you esc.

well thats great to know...? ill explain my problem. i got a used rustler about a year ago and it didnt work so it sat on a shelf for a long time as a project i would get around to. well now id like to give it to my brother for his b-day on friday and i figured out that if i changed the servo and plugged in the small rx pack i have (looks like 4 AAA, but i cant read how many volts) it works just fine, but without the rx pack it wont work at all. being id like to keep my rx pack and the charger i would give him wouldnt charge 4cells anyway, i thought the 4AA would be a good idea. soo should i try it or should i check for a different problem?

It needs to be done like this. If you use a receiver pack and turn the esc on, it can burn it up. Need to cut the red wire that comes from the ESC or pull it out of the plug. I dont know why you need a receiver pack but from the way I am reading it, I guess you burned up the bec on the speedo or who ever had it before you.
