school bus runs over my daughter

Yea if she has nerve damage in her arm you need to talk, and talk a lot, to a good lawyer. Bones heal, tendons and ligaments can be repaired (although its a PITA) but nerve damage in her hand is unfortunately basically permanent with todays medical knowhow (until more research is done with stem cells...maybe). Your daughter needs to be compensated for this life changing accident and may need some psychological help too!

Hope she gets better soon.

So sorry to hear about the accident. I'm really glad that she is "O.K" I know she is not really ok. It will take a long time for the emotional trauma to go away. As someone who works in the school systems I can say that none of our bus drivers, teachers, or administration would let something like that go. We would hang the driver out to dry and do everything we could to make things right with your family. Accidents happen but that is pretty inexcuseable.

that is so crazy, i hope all goes well and that is very sad to see that they would even make a mistake like that let alone the F'in dumbass Billy guy saying keep your mouth shut i would have beat his ass if he said that, diefintly sue those asshats

The online article makes no mention of the 35 feet or the running over.

of course the online article isnt going to make the school or the bus driver look bad, its not in there best interest... but it doesnt mean it didnt happen....

I spoke with the director of schools, benny bills and he told me very directly that I needed to keep my mouth shut about it and let it go.

Needless to say the local news has been all over it, and we already have an attorney.

Darryl

Wow,

my thoughts andd prayers are w/ your family, I hope she makes a full recovery...But this sound like typical district/administration behavior. A law suite takes time and money neither of wich school districts are in abundance of right now.

I remember when I was in high school and I got in a fight w/ a black kid...when I was sent to the councillors office to "work it out" she expllained to me that the reason I beat the black kid up was because I was mormon, and all mormons are racist and hate black people, she dolled out a punishment to me, and not the other kid This bothered me, I beat the kid up because he was being a dick and threw his lunch in my lap....any way I went to the principle w/ my concerns and he said that it was the councillors opinion and that I needed to let it go, he took my 2 weeks of in school suspension down to 1 week, still no punishment for the other kid. That night I went home told my dad about it, who happened to be friends w/ a ranking memeber of the city council, and the next morning myself, my dad, and the city council member were in the principles office, it got pretty messy in the end and some people lost thier jobs, but what is important is the right thing was done....so keep fighting man, dont let this bs be, definetly do something about it!

Ashton

Im glad shes OK, but how the fu3k do you not know your fu3king draging a kid thats yelling and screaming!!!! i meant WTF i'd sue the schools azz:evil:

Are you shittin' me? Any proof of this?

Hang him by the fawkin' balls and see to it that he loses his job for trying to sweep this under the rug.

The bus driver should have already been let go.

Glad your daughter is OK and not more seriously injured.

In a case like this I'm sure you've got lawyers lined up to represent your family.

Good luck and keep us updated on your daughter.

Yeah he shouldn't of said that to you he's just trying to save himself. And as for the moron bus driver the bus is not supposed to move until the child is safely away from the bus.

Firstly, thank all of you for your support. I appreciate it all immensly.
JIA, unfortunately I have no proof that Benny Bills (sumner county director of schools) said that to me. The conversation we had was over the phone while I was in the ER. Had I of ever thought for one second that he would have said that I would have recorded the whole thing.

The report done by channel 4 news was done the very next night, at the time of the story we had been asked by the investigators not to release any information about anything. Still I felt it was important to at least let others know this had happened. I did not want to say anything about her being dragged or run over until the investigation was fully complete.

New news for tonight. Finally got the accident report in hand. The blood test for the driver is still pending, however he did admit in his statement to the investigators that he just was not paying attention, and he did admit to taking his blood preasure meds before he started his route. Doing some light research (and someone with more medical knowledge than me please corrwct me if I'm wrong) but your not supposed to operate any sort of machinery, and I would think from what I'm reading, especially a bus full of kids while your on blood preasure medicine.

Today I learned from my wife while I was at work that they have been pulling my daughters out of class everyday to "counsel" them. I already told the school to not speak with them about it. Both of my daughters said they have been pulled out of class several times to answer questions about what happened. Jesus effen christ, these assholes just don't effen get it. Maybe a visit from my attorney and I in the morning will answer their questions.

At any rate, there is soooo much more to this all I can't even begin to say half of it. Mostly because of legal reasons. But I do want to thank you all for your support and prayers.

Wow I am sorry to here this, I hope your daughter is coming through this ok.

I have never liked school buses, I have been walking across the street and have buses come flying through with kinder gardeners in the bus and it's just scary to see that. the way bus drivers act and drive is to scary, and sense there are no seat belts on them.

And for the school administrator guy, you still can have a little more pull then him sense your a parent and this just happened to your family, I would get him fired.

I had a problem with a teacher because I was in a bad mode he comes up I said something after he said something, he threatened to lay my a** out last year so I got in his face said throw the first punch and he backed down, he then said to my vice principle that he said "I can lay your a** out" but I had 6 other witnesses. I didn't push the issue but could have.

But in your situation it is an issue to push this as much as you can when a kids life was put in danger and he just wants it put away and hidden.

I hope you get a highly skilled lawyer that gets you everything you and your poor daughter deserves. I feel bad for your poor girl.

Not defending this one.

Sorry, to hear what happened to your daughter. I really hope all works out for you.

My mother is a bus driver and she drives those kids like they are her grandkids. But she is old school and takes her job seriously even though she does not make much money, but knows that she has all those kids lives in her hands. This guy sounds like he was in a hurry and once she get a foot out the door he goes. She says you can't move until you see the kids on the sidewalk and away from the bus. It makes her sick that he would have even moved with her that close to the bus. She is always having to watch safety videos and take refresher courses.

She tells me stories of kids misbehaving, having a police officer have to come to the bus so she can finish her route. Parents yelling at her because she wouldn't let little kids off the bus if there was no adult waiting there for the kids and the parents pissed because they have to pick up there kids at school. But she does it all to put the kids safety first.

This guy should be let go and the keep your mouth shut guy too. But don't judge all bus drivers, a lot of school districts in indy are losing bussing and parents have to start dropping off or picking up. Worse is daycares picking up kids. I've worked a daycare when I was young and I have found my babysitter (not anymore) with my kid in a carseat on the floor of the van because she had to pick up the kids from school. Her kids went to a private school with no bussing. So, I would rather have buses pick up my kids, then a daycare system. but I would want to know the schools policy on dropping and picking up kids.

It's sad to say but hopefully the school district takes a look at their policies and makes sure this never happens again.

Not trying to defend this scumbag in any way but I talked with my fiance (nurse-cardio) tonight over dinner and she said as far as the blood pressure medicine goes that it wouldnt be something that would hold up in court. That warning label is on just about everything from cough syrup to Tylenol and it of course affects everyone different. For ex- her dad (my fiance's) takes blood pressure meds and works for our county driving dump trucks & other "heavy machinery" every day. If he (your bus driver) admited "not paying attention" then that alone should place the blame on him. If he wants to then in turn blame it on the meds, then you could refer to the warning label. Also, theres the personal med info that you could be releasing if you mention too many specifics about this specific indiviual. He could turn around & sue you. Youve got the right idea keeping a "somewhat" lid on it until the investigation is complete.

As for your daughters being pulled from class & "counseled", I would absolutely make you and your lawyer visiting the school the first thing on the agenda tom.

Like I said before, in my mind theres ZERO excuse for dragging a child 35ft with an arm stuck in the door of a school bus.

I just saw on the news last night where a woman in Boston got her purse stuck in the door of a subway train while it pulled off, recieved no injuries, & the train driver lost his job on the spot.

F'd up world we live in....

I haven't rode in a school bus in a school bus in 14 years or so, but I remember complaining about my bus driver flooring it as my foot was leaving the platform, so in that regard I could definitely see something like this happening, I don't know what rush is, if its a Time thing with the bus company, or the driver just wanted to get home or if they just don't care but after rereading your post it made me remember that. Considering how much of a liability it is to deal with other peoples Kids I can't imagine that busing companies are pushing drivers to haul ass, but then again if they had to win a contract by saying we'll get everyone home by XX time and we'll do it with fewer buses I could see the pressure. Either way its wrong on so many levels

Our public schools are just an extension of our government, like our government, they suck!

I hope and pray that your daughter is ok.

I used to get really pissed off having to wait for the busses around here.
I don't mind so much anymore. It's supposed to be for the safety of the kids.

They seem to really watch out for the kids pretty good as they get off the bus and make them wait to cross the street. This hopefully was just an isolated incedent and that it is not the norm. I know I couldn't handle the job.

Prayers indeed for your daughter and your family.

Get well soon, little one.
