What are the best shocks for that realistic movement when traversing off road? i watched some videos and some of the better looking jeeps appear to have King shocks.

RC4WD King shocks SUCK!

Realistic movement is going to have more to do with your setup than the actual shock. You can use anything from Traxxas shocks to ProLine shocks.

I currently have Integy shocks with reservoir. Maybe the oil is too thick and the spring too stiff? The rear seems to sag so i tightened the spring adjustment to make it stand up right. My rig is heavy with all the metal parts i upgraded to. But maybe the dampening should be a bit looser so it reacts a bit more realistic?

Integy shocks aren't the best and they often are way off on spring rates. If your truck is sagging too much that means the spring is too soft for the weight of your truck.

Oil controls how quick your truck reacts. If the shocks take forever to rebound your oil is too thick. If the shocks rebound instantly your oil is too thin.

That's a very bold statement. I happen to love my king shocks. Maybe I'm just not a suspension guru and don't know any better. I know they seam much better than the stock axial icons I was using.

It's not a bold statement. RC4WD doesn't do shocks well and the King shocks are no different.

well each of us has opinions.. like those written above, I don't know much about "the best shocks" out there

but from my point of view, what I have is my best (option)
IMHO

Also, let's make sure we clarify between RC4WD and Axial Kings - the Axials are basically just colored Axial shocks, with blue plastic caps & collars on the RTR Bomber and blue anodized aluminum caps & collars on the kit version.

With careful assembly, tuning with springs and shock oil, and additional tricks like green slime used during assembly along with better o-rings - many relatively shocks performance can be greatly increased.

That said, I'm a bigger fan of modded Traxxas Big-Bores, high-end Associated and Losi SCT and buggy shocks, Pro-Lines, and the hard-to-find Kyosho Velvets.

Kings do not suck if you use traxxas o-rings and get the spring tune kit. I also love the axial icons.
Sure, let's change most things about a shock because they suck and then claim they don't suck. :lmao:

I assumed we were talking about RC4WD shocks.

Rc4wd king shocks are hot garbage unless you leave the oil out of them and use them on a display rig only. If you want to actually drive the rig you'd be hard pressed to beat a traxxas big bore for overall performance and usability.

I hated King shocks on my Ascender, but put a set on my 1.9 Wraith and they were phenomenal. They reacted very, very realistically with the right springs and 20WT oil. They leak, even with green slime (which really is more to prevent the threads of the shaft from tearing the o-ring than anything), but there also isn't a better looking shock out there.

My input on the topic. There is no perfect shock on the market currently. I run big bores with Losi mini -t springs and they are fantastic performance wise. The big bores are by no have a scale look. The kings will stick and leak but are the best looking shock. I also love the look of the Emu's but again stick and leak.

My best advise..... if you like a certain shock get them but prepare yourself to do some work. Make certain that the pistons are completely smooth with no burs. Experiment with o-rings and get some associated green slime. I have had kings that worked great after some love. Good luck and don't be afraid to dive in. It's a hobby"thumbsup"

MY SCX10 kit came with the Icon shock, after reading stuff on here I'm glad I didn't buy the King shocks. I might look into Proline shocks.

You can't go wrong with Pro-Line shocks.
They are pricey, but they are some of the best out there.

I've not had any experience with Traxxas Big Bores, so I can't comment.
However, the aluminium bodied Axial shocks are generally quite good.
The Axial King shocks on my kit Bomber are really quite impressive.
I had no issues with my shock pistons, they were perfectly smooth right outta the box with no burrs whatsoever.
Associated Green Slime on the o-rings and the shocks have been super smooth and performing flawlessly from day one with no leaks at all.

Whatever shock you go for, make sure that there is an adequate selection of springs available.
A lot of what makes "the best" shock is tuning them to your specific requirements.
Even "the best shocks ever made" are cactus if not set up correctly.

Proline shocks are a great choise, get the spring tuning kit for it also.
I got the (rc4wd) kings on mine atm, green slimed and traxxas O rings, going on 3'rd month leak free and tuned to my liking.

I used the traxxas big bores on my scx10 and they performed pretty well. I ran them with 20wt associated oil. Just don't use the xxl big bores. They are too long for the stock drivetrain angles and they will bind your driveshafts.

I have been doing nothing but research on all topics and learn new stuff everyday. I found a thread on x-ring o-rings some made by traxxas and there was a link to some from McMaster car. It looks like you can do a little work and get most any shock to work if your willing to put in the time. I'm personally taking the King shock challenge and ordered the proper x-rings from McMaster car. I will post up my findings and part numbers when I get some parts in.
