shaggy's custom G-made R1

banebots and zno spur plates and hardened pins ordered. I wanted to go with 540s but its just not gonna happen the way I have it setup now with the bta...no clearance. I figure the banebots on 3s lipo will be good enough for what im looking to get outta her.

I run banebots with an 8.4 5000 nimh and 10 t pinions and i dont see any reason for more power or wheel speed than that it works really well and barley any clod stall

Inner axle weight added. I was able to get 3oz glued to the inside of the axle tubes with no clearance issues

edit:

I was able to get another 1 1/2oz inside the axle housing by glueing weight inside the diff next to the spur gear...its a tight fight but everything clears just fine. I could actually double everything up and get another 1-2oz if I wanted to...but im good with it like it is. Is now at about 4 1/2oz.

Pretty smart idea. Maybe make a mold of that and try making lead parts to fit in there? You could gain lots of axle weight then. Lead is easy to melt to lol

Ya u could definately do that. Theres still lots of room for the axles. U could easily get 5-6oz in there if u did it like that. Plus with the lead inthere it will strengthen the axle housings.

How did you mount your upper and lower links to the chassis?I bought the r1 chassis and I'm having trouble with mounting the links.May just make my own.

So Shaggy, how does it crawl compared to the stock RS10XT chassis geometry? Would you say its a marked improvement, or is it about the same? I'm thinking of starting from scratch and really like the tuber look of the R1 chassis, but if it has more complications than practical crawling benefits, I'll probably go some other way.

Well since I went back to show it off for my wtb wheels thread I figured id give a quick update. After 4 1/2 years of on and off use this thing is still rocking. I did end up frying the esc and had to upgrade to a hobbyking dual esc I got for like 25 bucks that is great. Besides stripping the wheel hex and hub on the wheel I have not had to do to much to it. It crawls awesome (definately better than stock) but its more about that it certainly looks and feels (acts) much more like a real ultra 4. Still running stock motors receiver on 2400 3s lipo. Its not the fastest car out there but looks and crawls great. Very happy overall with the redcat electronics and axles that make up this build with the upgrades ive done to them.

little experience is no problem, the difficulties are in finding the parts you need.
pretty much have to make your own links and things like shock mounts and body braces.
with patience and some researching you can make or adapt just about anything.
the little details like matching rod ends and matching screws will add a lot to the satisfaction
of doing your own work.

enjoy
