Shaun's 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe Restore

Thank you

Blew pretty much my whole pay check, but it was worth it. I'm amazed at the difference it made, and my dad and I don't even have it set up yet all the way yet.

Moroso Advance Kit
MSD Cap
MSD Rotor
MSD Coil
MSD Coil Cover
MSD Digital HEI Control Module.

how much power does that badass monte make? and how much you got rapped up in it?

Not much, about 215-220 if I'm lucky, and thats not making it to the ground, they only had 180 at the crank from the factory. The good thing is, all the upgrades I have done will swap over to the 383 I'm planning to start building shortly.

I stopped counting along time ago how much I put into it, I know one of my dresser drawers is overflowing with reciepts, when I get it completey finished I'll add up how much I have in it.

Thanks,
Shaun

Amazing the difference the X-pipe makes to the exhaust note! Sounds gooooood!

I'm betting you'll get tired of the short-dump exhaust after a few hours on a road trip...I see tail pipes in this car's future!

really, I thought it would have been a little more.

ok so what hp range are you shooting for with the 383?

I hope my firebird doesn't end up being a money pit to where I quit counting:lol:.

Already planned, getting my tails added next check, and picking up some BBK billet underdrive pulleys. Thanks.

My buddie has Desktop dyno, I'm going to add everything up and see were it ends at.

I'm going for 500hp @ crank for the 383.

You can do it cheap, and have a nice car, I just prefer to blow just about every bit of my money on my car, since its what I enjoy.

The Monte is coming along nice there Shawn "thumbsup"

As far as that emission testing crap, its nothing but a Gov scam to soak yet more money out of people's pockets. Not to mention punish people who couldn't afford to drive newer cars.
We had that shit here for 5 years before the government finally did away with it, admiting with their own tests, that it did NOTHING for air quality.
It was nothing but another waste of the people's tax dollars.

X2 on the Monte Shaun

SOunds like the emissions gas we get around here, I've never foiunbd out, but would just love to know if the improvement in air quality outweighs the loss in gas mileage we get from using that crap:x

great you just answered that question for me, maybe I should sell my firebird and just ride a bike:ror:

Got the back tint off yesterday, it took me 5 hours with a steam machine. But it looks alot better.

Painted my door panels with duplicolor Fabric & Vinyl. It actually turned out really good, its a little brighter than the factory color.

I'm impressed.

204.26 HP
250.63 TQ

And I could have got more out of it, I set the rev limiter to low, and at 5,000RPM it shut down. Going to bump it up to 5,500 or 6,000 tonight before I leave.

Dyno sheet for proof

I must say I have to envy you, of all the different cars and trucks, I have never owned a v8 car. I also have lots of projects and never seem to get more than parts and never finish them before I sell them or give up on them. Now that I'm older I have too many bills and a wife so my project time is even more limited:cry:

Enjoy it and hurry up on the 383"thumbsup"

Thanks man!
Honestly not sure if I'm doing the 383, the block I had was junk. I'm considering building a rat motor for it.

I ran the midnights last night, they only turn the clocks on for one hour, On my first pass I screwed up and did a 16.22, and on my second pass it died off the line, I think I'm having a squirter problem. I couldn't get through the staging lanes again in time to make another run with the clocks on.

Heres another club members camaro on the dyno.

Bought a block, vortec heads, and a complete TPI system with Painless wiring harness. I plan on building the engine and putting a carb on it, and collecting the parts that I really want for the TPI then putting the TPI on next fall.

Got it home and on the engine stand saturday morning, but had to be at work at 9am, so I didn't get anything done. When I got off tonight though I got it torn down.

Heads, sorry for the bad picture, one of the ballast in the light above my bench died in the shop:-(

And where I'm at tonight.

Not exactly sure what way I'm going with it, my dad and I are still talking, either a 355, or 383.

Going to build the 200-r4 and do a different rear end, either an 8.5 or a 9 inch, probably a 9 inch.

Might I suggest something alongs the lines of this for a paintjob? And dump that idea of a 200-4r and get a real 4 speed. Muncie M21 style.

Haven't updated this in a while, looks like an aluminum headed 383 it is going to be. Don't plan on having it done till around fall. I'm planning on building the engine, tranny, and rear end, then throwing it all in, in the winter.

Got somethin for the 305. 100 shot should wake it up a little bit ;D
system is practically new, only 3-4 passes on it.

I couldn't ever get the TV cable to adjust right, especially after I went to the 650 Double pumper, so I cut the bracket moved it back a half inch and welded it back, now its perfect. Heres a pic of the new carb set up and the modified mount.

Can't wait till the track opens back up, the 650 feels alot better.

I guess we wont get to spray the 305, I was crusing around tonight and lost oil pressure and it started hammering.

I have a set of .30 over Hypereutectic pistons, and some I beam rods, I guess I'll just throw together a cheap 350 so I can run this season.
