Shipping Prices

Are shipping prices getting ridiculous lately or is it just me? I just picked up a couple sets of brushes and lw spring posts and it cost $7.50 to ship. Seems like you could throw stuff that small in a padded envelope and ship it for a lot less.

I noticed some places like AMain the shipping seams cheaper than it used to be. Then other places seem to be padding the profits with shipping. I expect it to only go higher. I get excited to see a place will ship priority mail for $5-7. Just depends on where you shop.

Agreed... If I can I always order from Amainhobbies just cause their shipping prices are always the lowest possible and they have about every option for shipping as well "thumbsup"

High prices...... Everything is higher when ordering stuff to be "shipped" to Canada. But it's the sane to ship out as well sometimes. Oh and everyone wants it yesterday ;-)

The prices are getting higher. I stopped selling so much cause I got tires of eating the cost of shipping that I wasn't expecting

I know RPP isn't over charging on shipping. I had a $200 order and got the "free ground" shipping, it came priority."thumbsup"

It's starting to cost more to ship things so expect to see it passed on to the customer. The only guys that can still ship cheaply are the guys like mcmaster that have there own UPS trucks.

There have been rate hikes from carriers lately. I've had brushes and other items crushed in first class padded envelopes, so we put everything in priority boxes unless its stickers or the customer asks for cheaper options.

agreed. to protect the customer i ship everything priority and in a box.
all it takes is ONE lost or damaged order and that $3 you saved using padded envelope/first class to make it not worth it for seller or buyer.

Things get crushed in padded envelopes, especially brushes. It really comes down to tracking though. Paypal requires a tracking number in case of a dispute. No tracking number= Auto loss. Ease of use too. I can do all my priority or express shipping through paypal...shipping stuff first class isn't as easy for foreign shipments.

So at this point, everything goes Priority in the US and Canada (yes, you can track it) and express every where else.

USPS prices have gone up a bunch....$7 for priority is about right when you factor in price, paypal fees, printing costs, packing supplies....nobody is making any money really of that amount.

Eddie is right about the $7. Factor in all the items he mentioned and the time it took the employee to do it, and the sender may be actually losing in the end.

Just for the record I never meant that the venders where over charging. I have placed several orders this last week and the shipping rates seemed higher then normal. That was all I was getting at.

With a small business it should be a balance of having margins on the products to pay the employees, and ensuring there is enough handling fee to cover packaging and time going to the PO if needed. I also give a differential pay per correct order to the packaging worker that is added into the handing. If they screw up, they eat the reship cost and lose the bonus. But if they are diligent and work hard it adds a good bonus to the base pay (can almost double it with really hard work), giving incentive to work fast without errors.

A happy employee, is a productive employee. Good on you for doing this.
