Single Cab F450

That was a long week….


So I’m kind of not sure what I want to do right now. As you can see I’m having problems with the bond on the cab where I cut and glued it, and I haven’t even got one run on it lol. It’s also sagging in the middle between the cab and bed where I didn’t glue it 100% straight.

So I have two options:

build a custom hardbody for it(not totally sure what yet, but I do have some ideas)

keep with this body and buy a new cab and redo the chop with a better technique as I have already started it and don’t want to give up. Is there any better ways to bond lexan that won’t crack and pull apart on the first drop?

For the future, when you shorten something like this, be sure to leave some lexan on the side that's gonna be tucked in (more meat to E6000 together). But you could still add those leftover pieces (the rear bottom half of the doors specifically, if you choose to open up the windows etc). You could use those pieces to glue over the tucked in part to sandwich it in. Pretty much duplicating like the shoe goo/drywall tape trick mentioned.
 
I shortened my F650 cab by using Shoo Goo and strips of mesh drywall tape.



The bond is incredibly durable

I definitely messed up on that, I don’t know what I was thinking. I wonder how hard it would be to do a butt-joint on a new cab, it would definitely look better as long as I could get all the cuts perfectly straight.

Smoke stack looks great! Great idea using the towel rod! The soot looks spot on!;-)

Check out this replica of the diesel brothers Brodozer I built a few years ago. I took a proline F250 extended cab and made it into a crew cab. the technique is decently laid out in the thread of how I cut and bonded a lexan body. Reinforced and even filled the cracks. That body has held up quite well over the years.
