So who's broken an axle housing?

Old thread but yeah.. I broke my rear housing last fall from a nasty tumble down a gravel bank. My axle shaft had a nasty bend that I didn't even try to straighten. The housing broke in the exact same spot as the OP's did.

I didn't mess around and got some aluminum housings. It is good for others to know that there are beef tubes available now too though. Options are good. "thumbsup"

Yes yes yes! I just installed the steel BEEF TUBES from biggin69 a few weeks ago. I had been running aluminum tubes but I have been breaking axles regularly of late and didn't feel like making any more of my own. He does a nice job and I thought I would give steel a try. I will let you guys know when I break one :P

My opinion on the aluminum housings is that I would just break them too. The all have the exact same fault as the stockers with cap screw taking away all the material at the most stressed point. Panhead screws for the link mounts would make the axle wayyyy stronger. It disappoints me the aftermarket would just bootleg this shotty design. They always break in the exactly the same spot, my buddy has broken just as many if not more than me and it's always at the link mount screws.

Fwiw the axle shafts straighten easy in a vise and I have salvaged them all 6 times so far.

That's a cool thread. I've pro4 and two speeded my wraith and Vanqish axles and took mine to the local sc track and jumped the crap out of and it did great. Wish I had video but will try to take some next time.e

its me or it seems like the only part that needs to beef up its the longer axle housing not the short.
in all pics I have seen of broken axle housing its the longer section that break always

It's ALWAYS the long side lol but seriously the Beef Tubes seem to be doing the job "thumbsup"
