first off i have been soldering for over 45 years everything from pc boards to industrial metal work never once had any issues but all the sudden i cant solder a battery plug to save my life ive tryed 3 different electronics flux flux core and solid core american electronics solder and cheap chinese solder nothing sticks heck i cant even tin a wire with a torch

what changed im so frustrated im about to try melting down lead tire weights to see if i can get that to stick lol

Have you tried with a different plug. Maybe theres some contamination in the first plug you tried?

Soldering iron shit the bed?

ya brand new plugs old plugs dosent matter new wire or old wire
kinda sounds like a low temp issue.
with a torch i would say its hot enuff

the plug im trying to solder today was a factory solder joint that let loose on the 3rd or 4th charge ive been trying to fix it and the solder just roles off

If not temp related I'd say you have a tip that's gone bad... more of a possibility if the tip was never prepped sufficiently. All that being said, my soldering game really changed for the better when I started tinning my tips. You can find it on Amazon or wherever and while that's not gonna help you out immediately, it might be a good time to consider getting some. Also fwiw when I started tinning, I was able to get away from the wet sponge and into brass pads to clean. Prob a given but make sure that if that tip is the screw-in type that it's fully seated in place.

ya no tip on the torch

Sometimes, some of the wire is dubious.

Seems the wire quality Is not what it should/could be, thus making tinning/soldering much harder.

I was never a great soldering guy, but never really bad either, just never did enough of it over any span of time to develop the techniques/skills required to be proficient with the solding gun, or get to know the differences in things being soldered, beyond copper for plumbing anyways.

But a few years back I got an ESC and played HELL trying to get the wires to fking tin up. New 60w weller didn't even work.
IMO, the wire was bad, and it really needed some high heat to burn off whatever it was covered with before it would take solder.

I have 1 guy here that never uses flux and his solder jobs are atrocious to say the least. My brother has issues sometimes. I always use a paste flux on any and all soldering points of contact. I also clean the tips inside and out ever so often.
