In my many years on this forum I've learned a lot about 1:1 off-road rigs and how difficult they are to design properly for safety and bragging rights.

Like all youngsters first thing I built was an scx10 which I later found these deep chevron tread mud tires off a broken record I was able to soak in wd-40 for a few hours to soften them up and glue them to some wheels on my self waterproofed rig. Since that time every scaler I buikt needed to be water and mud proof as best as possible while still as scale as possible.

I got pretty good at the ins and outs of Axial parts, VP parts, Holmes motors, Waterproofing my own servos and receivers....well I came across a brand new set of HPI Wheely King chevron tread tires mounted already on some 2.2 plastic wheels.

Too bad there's no foams inside the tires. Should I bake them and stuff them with something? They are super squishy and air does come out when you squeeze them.

I'm using axial beefed up axles, bucket proof axial tranny, question now is which chassis. I'd love to use the Crawler King's TVP chassis like a real bigger but their planetary tranny and 48p gears will not hold up.

Any Other Ideas? Chop up an scx10 chassi?

Depends on what you are going for...

Wk tires are good in mud but not much else. If you are crawling with them you will be disappointed, now if you are doing a pure mud truck, vent the tread of the tire and have fun in the mud. It allows the water to be slung out as the tire spins.

A better tire is rc4wd's 2.2 mud tire. Narrower and taller and a lot stickier.

For the Wk/Ck rc4wd sells a steel gear set for the Wk trans, then it is nearly bullet proof.

You can also put a original ax10 chassis plates on the Scx10 frame to give it a similar look.

Well I scored a good deal on a brand new partially assembled scx10 chassis frame/skid/shock hoops/body mounts with stock Axial hex hardware for $43 shipped.

Like all my past projects I try to reuse as many old bullet proofed/water proofed/used parts I have on hand.

This won't be the first time I've done a bogger based on an scx10 chassis with 2.2 mud tires of some sort and completely submersible. My plan this time is to have it be capable of some decent wheelspeed/torque, have it sit higher like a strictly designed mudder not a crawler or trail truck, and probably aim to have it run up to 4s just to go a little over the top.

Current parts on hand:

1). BRXL Waterproof Version with waterproofed Castle BEC
2). MMP (will have to waterproof it myself)
3). Full set of Vanquish titanium uppers/lowers on Revo rod ends
4). Axial SCX10 axles --
Front: Axial overdrive hardened gears, Vanquish VVD's, Vanquish 8* C's and Knuckles, HR SHD locker, stock plastic axle housing (may upgrade).
Rear: Axial stock ratio hardened gears, HR SHD locker, STRC Stainless Steel Axles and Aluminum Rear Lockouts, stock plastic axle housing (may upgrade).
5). Axial AX10 Robinson loaded tranny, HR aluminum tranny case, dual stacked and JB Welded stock Axial motor plates
6). MIP's
7). Stock Wheely King tires/wheels -- new take offs from eBay
8). Crawler Innovations closed cell waterproof foams 2.2 size
9). Axial Wraith stock 4" plastic shocks

Things to still get:
1). Body -- Lexan or ABS?
2). Motor choice -- sensored brushless and waterproof it OR handwound brushed?
3). Servo choice -- since I am just planning to bog and not crawl I won't be needing a crazy high end servo....I was thinking something metal geared with around 250-300oz/in @ 6.0V? Options?

Also debating whether or not to mod the WK wheels and tires since they are so freaking wide I may have clearance issues with the body or might have offset issues with the stock Axial hexes.

Holmes offers his trail sport 540 sensored motor with conformal coating for around $85 iirc.

As for a servo, Solar D772 is 300+, I forget, but that might be at 7.2v though, metal geared, and only about $22 at hobbypartz

Went with the new Savox SW 1211-SG waterproof one $73 not bad at all! Usually I'd get a Hitec 5645mg and waterproof it myself but lately Savox has been stepping it up!!
