Spektrum SR3100 receiver antenna question

I am useing an SR3100 receiver in my crawler. The antenna is a coaxial type antenna. On Spektrum's website it says not to cut the exposed end because that is the actual antenna. That leads me to believe the grey "jacketed" part of the antenna is basicaly an extention of sorts.

Does anyone know if it is possible to shorten the antenna by removing the connector at the board and cutting it off from that end?

A replacement antenna is available for pretty cheap so it might be worth a try.

I "shortened" mine by running it through the spur and pinon on accident. It didn't cause any problems what so ever.I'm sure the range is shorter now but that's not a problem with a crawler.

not with a coaxial cable. The whole thing is the antenna. don't cut it, don't put sharp bends in it.

I have mine rolled up in a little ball and shrink wrapped. Still works just fine.

I know another guy who opened the reciever case and stuffed the antenna inside.

You're right in thinking that the actual antenna is just the exposed end, so it's possible to shorten it.
Best way is to cut it to the length you want, then trim the plastic outer sleeve and the shield.

The length of the exposed portion is critical, so measure the original end before you start, and cut the new end exactly the same.

do this.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I think I'm going to try coiling the antenna inside the case first. I would have never thought of that.

Wondering if this is truth. I accidentaly cut my Futaba r603ff antenna wire today. Reception seems okay with the truck at me feet and Tx in my hand.
Is this something to worry about?
Is it as easy a fix as the above poster states?

Basicly you will never be more that 5 feet from your crawler, so it shouldn't ever be a problem, unless you are doing someting seriously wrong.

the speky's antenna is short to begin with. Not like the AM and FM one's that you had to wrap, coil, and stick through a 12" tube just tosort of keep out of the way.

Thanks for the input.
Fortunately I was able to buy a replacement Antenna for the R603ff, & it will be an easy enough fix. Though from here on out I'll be keeping my antennas far from any zip ties that may need to be cut."thumbsup"
