Spell and grammar check

While I might not be the best speller or have the best grammar, it's amazing to see some of the posts that people put forth for all to read (or try to).

I'm a member of quite a few forums (mostly home theater forums) and they all have a spellcheck feature that is either started by clicking on a button prior to posting, or automatically when you click "Post". It will quickly scan your post and point out errors in spelling and grammar. You can then change the errors and post a clean, readable, and semi-intelligent post.

Any possibility in getting something like that started here? It seems as though some of the kiddos that post on this forum are missing their English classes and need to be taught decent English somewhere

yeah if we did and made it as to where you would have to fix the errors, some of these kids would stop posting so much because it would take them 30 mins to reply due to fixing all their errors

Not likely.

As microgoat said, we would need a insanely power server to handle the load of the spelling tards on this site.

I would rather you install a spell check plugin for your browser and put the load on your PC's.

I agree that the task would end up being rather taxing on a server, based upon the amount of CPU cycles that would be required for this. I just get so darn tired of having to try and decipher what these people are trying to say.

Adding the spell check plugin to the browser would be a better option. But if these idiots can't spell correctly and constantly think that "to" means the same thing as "also", I seriously doubt that they will have the mental capacity to...1) figure out how to install the plugin, and 2) not have a single clue as to how to use it.

It really makes me start to worry about the condition of our school systems and how these idiots can even get out of remedial English class. It really boils down to one thing...proofread.

I actually don't think most of these kids on this board that type like **** are stupid at all. I think they are just extremely lazy.

They may not BE stupid, but it sure comes across that way. Foreigners can post in English, why can't we? Why should I spend five minutes trying to de-code thirty seconds worth of information? This isn't a secret society with blood oaths. At least, I haven't taken the oath.

I give noobs three posts to prove themselves worthy. If they blow it with ADD spelling/grammar that's so bad that I can't read it, they go straight to the ignore list, and the problem goes away.

News flash, kids. There's a lot of guys sleeping in cardboard boxes who spell like this:

You think it's cute typing like this, wait til it's time to go get a job, and your resume says something like: Unique Skills: Posting Unintelligible Garbage on Internet Forums. See RCCrawler.com for details, search for posts by BloodyStupidNoob.

yeah, that'll get ya hired. at Burger King.

What kind of server is this site running on? If there is a dedicated server, even a decent desktop could handle it. Considering that people dont post in every minute, I dont think that 0.1s of cpu use going over about 5bytes of data would hurt much. But anyways, there should be no need for a spellcheck.... rather for some education.

For those of you looking for an option, you could simply spell check in MS Word or Works...

Oh wait, that would require effort. Almost as much effort as correct spelling and punctuation in the first place.

Nevermind.

How about a checker that just deletes posts with too many mistakes?

is thata the cheapest u will of i will give u 50
That is my favorite post this evening!

This site runs on a dedicated server which has 2x 1266 Mhz procs and 4GB of memory.

I think thats just the cool way to type for kids now. I don't mind it 'cause I need to study it for when my daughter is old enough to type on chat. I would rather know when she's saying something I need to know about that think she's just typing gibberish. Maybe we should call it dumbasskidbonics. I bet if somebody taught adults what all this crap meant, they could sell the classes and make some $. think about it.....dumbasskidbonics for dummies:mrgreen:

Let's give them 3 chances, then they're banned.

I'll through some more coal in the Banatron 2000, and get her warmed up!
