Sport High Trail Recommendations

personally I’d leave the tray. I run smaller packs up front but sometimes it’s nice just to have one battery for a majority of the day. You can get too much weight upfront when you start removing things form the middle/rear.

Here's my hot mess...well, two of them. I do have 1 truck where I run the battery up in the front tray. I prefer the balance better with it on the slider, but it's not bad with it up front. It's all preference really. Both places are better than stock IMO.

Got the body painted last night, bed lined the bed, rockers, flares front “bumper” and inside then painted the sculpted portion of the hood flat black.

I am half thinking about detail painting the lids for the roto packs, the sprayer portion of the extinguisher, as well as shovel, axe, and high lift at some point too. They’re not installed yet, but also have the 9t pinion, 45t spur and white .29 Rate springs on hand now. Also now have it set it up to run dual 2200mAh 2s 1/16 packs under the hood and have the 1/16 parallel adapter on hand so I can run both at once and have removed the hold down strap and latch from the battery box in the middle. Not gonna lie, but I’m kinda curious on what it will do now with just lower gears, softer springs, the body clearanced for the tires, and putting the 1/16 batteries on that plate ahead of the servo.

I do have the 8112 Sport Body that had the bed topper on order for it and have picked up a TQi Rx so I can use a couple of my TQi Transmitters with it. Also thinking about adding all of the optional lighting except for what mounts to the cage work since it will see some night running.

So what I've found on my k5, was that when I went to 17wt oil in shocks and softer springs, .39 front and .29 rear, that the servo horn is then basically always sitting on the diff. I got a bumper servo mount off amazon and then a panhard rod mounting bracket off there as well. Cut the stock one off a bit to fit, and imo turns out to be a much more functional setup. Check out my thread, I've got some pictures on there.

No pics, but I did get the springs and gears installed tonight after dinner, hope the weather will be there so I go and do some testing during the day on Sunday.

Looks great!

Those hood vents look kinda wonky, but they look a hell of a lot better than body pins!
Thanks!
I agree on both counts, it’s a shame there’s not a way to use the clip less set up on the standard Sport and the topper equipped Sport bodies, they really do look better in comparison.

Ok, I love that 45t/9t gear combo you recommended OSRC, it’s seems perfect for what I’m doing, even with the box stock 5.3” tall tires! At this point I still need to add weight to the wheels, but it does great with less than $27 in upgrade parts spent so far!

With your 45t spur and the shorter Mickey-T tires, I’d start with a 16t or 17t pinion. That’ll give you good low-end torque and keep things slow and steady on the trails. If you decide you want a bit more speed later, you can try an 18t.

I’m happy with the stock tires and 9/45 combo I’m running now, May stay with a 5.3” 2.2 tire when I eventually upgrade the wheels and tires on the truck.

Whoa.... what kind of motor are you running with that setup. That's very tall gearing
Kinda wondering the same, that seems tall for the old school 4.2” tall 1.9” Flatirons on my SCX10, let alone an otherwise box stock TRX-4 High Trail, in any trim.
