Hey gang,

I remember a while back talking about this neat suspension which showed an inverted leafspring mounted like the parallel (outermost) links with a Y-shaped two link setup to prevent axle wrap. Anyone know what this is called? I'm trying to find more info about it. I'd like to try it on my TLT.

Sounds like you are talking about the double leaf spring mounting technic.

not a double leaf setup like on old horse buggies. One end of the leaf is on the axle and the other is on the frame. The bump stop is mounted on the frame so that when the suspension is compressed the bump stop hits the middle of the leaf (where the axle would be if it were mounted normally) The inner links are basically like straight links, but these have another smaller link going down from them, to the axle to prevent wrap.

Why is that?

the axle will wrap underneath the truck

well by looking at the pic, it looks like it is still under construction. So noone asked for your opinon on that truck, only about 1/4 elliptical suspensions :flipoff:

thanks for the kick in the balls just was letting whoever owns that truck that he/she will have serious trouble on the trail with that suspension setup

hrmmmm. do you not see the leaves attatched to the frame?

come on dude you cant actually think that the four u-bolts is going to be strong enough to hold while actually crawling on some REAL trails

you must be blind if you cant see the four link.
ooooo now that I open my eyes i can see the bottom link oops

i was thinking about rubbin the 4 link thing in but then thought maybe he ment have the hole thing scissor fold. so i pointed out the the leaves were attached.

guess i didnt quite understand what he was getting at.

You are quite welcome ;-) but as you have seen now, there is a 4-link so the axle will not go anywhere. those suspensions have been around for a long time and work very well ;-)

so anyway, back to the question at hand- It is called a 1/4 elliptical suspension. You can make it work on a TLT or anything else for that matter. but to get the looks, you would need some bruiser/jugg springs and i don't think they would work very good due to the stiffness.also, you would need to find a shackle of somesort to mount on the axle. If you was only building for scale, then it would work very well. you are just running spring packs instead of a coilover shock, but you would still need a shock on there. so unless you are only doing this for scale looks, i wouldn't suggest it. But it's your truck, build it how you want it ;-)
