Title says it all, rear wheel got hung up and apparently the smaller portal gear exploded…lol. Anyone have experience with aftermarket or just stick with oem?

I’m sure others will chime in with more info, but I believe the stock portal gears are sintered, and I know for a fact Traxxas offers machined version as an upgrade.

I would be heading that direction unless there’s a reputable company also making machined versions.

Nice carnage [emoji1360]

I thought I tore the tire or blew a drive shaft. But nope, it was the portal gear. Honestly my local shop had stock ones and it’s easy to fix and cheap so I bought 2 spares and won’t upgrade it. I’d rather that break then the transmission.

If you use it hard enough something is got to give, or be the "fuse". That gear is cheap and easy to fix, it makes a pretty good "fuse".

Yeah, ultimately that’s why I decided. Keep the cheap and easy to fix part, I bought a few spares.
