These aren't the most scale looking tow straps around but they are dead simple to make and require a minimum of supplies and effort. Be sure to use the most hideous colors available for that custom look 8)

This is all that's required: a lighter, a length of paracord, heat shrink tube and a couple screw-in hooks.
1 Materials.jpg

First, gut the paracord and slide the heat shrink tube to the middle.
2 Heat Shrink.jpg

Insert a hook into each end of the paracord until the shoulder of the hook is completely inside.

Give the paracord a good melt with the lighter so it forms around the shoulder. At this point you could apply a few drops of CA glue for added strength. Mine is petrified so I have to get a new bottle.

Slide the heat shrink tube up to cover everything.
5 Heat Shrink Joint.jpg

Shrink the tube with the lighter and they're done.

So fast and easy, you can make a whole pile of them. "thumbsup"

These hooks are called cup hooks and the ones I used are 1/2". They're available at any big box home store like Lowes or Homeless Depot.

nice, how well do they hold up to towing and pulling out stuck trucks?

might have to try this.

I lent a bunch of them out this weekend for our rock race and none came back broken "thumbsup"

I added some superglue to one and did a test - the hook started to bend before anything else, I'm guessing 30 or 40 lbs. of force.
