ok well it seems this subject is old news now that moabs are out, but i know i havent ponyed up the cash yet and im sure there are still some cheapies out there like myself who still need to soften up some tires. i looked around and have tried to gather all the threads on it and the ideas i have used if i missed a thread or you know of a trick post it up here.

1. Simple Green, and Rubbing Alcohal. -- i used this on my LSTs and they are uber stickie now and it seems it will last pretty good, they were already on rim so i filled up a gladware container with a 1/4 of the simple green and about 3/4 the rubbing alcohol. let each section of the tire soak about an hour.

2. wd-40 and heat-- worked alright but didnt last long i was doing it to my gs racing tires every time i would crawl would last like a battery pack, spray wd-40 all over the tire tread, let soak in around an hour or longer, then before i left to crawl, i would just run over the tires with a propane torch to get rid of the shineyness.

Has anyone actually tried real tire softener? The kind you buy in a gallon jug. Like Fast lap, Formula V, or Track claw. It is used on full size stock car tires. And yes it is illegal in most forms of racing. I may or may not have used it in the past. I may or may not have seen a rotiserie where you can treat 4 tires at a time. The tire is turned very slow and only the tread is dipped into the sauce. This way it doesn't get on the side walls of the tire. It smells like hell so it's not something to do in the Kitchen. But it works great to make rubber soft and sticky. Seems to me this could be done on a smaller scale. If done this way the bead of the tire wouldn't get ruined. Just a thought.

How long would the Simple Green/rubbing alcohol trick work? Has anyone actually tried that combo too? Sounds a bit scary to me, are the fumes any good though? ;)

VHT Trackbite---Formula V Traction Treatment---used motor oil

Apply (brush or roller) 3 times a day for 3 days.

Allow to dry for 48 hrs. before use.

CAUTION - test on old tires of similar compound (check hardness with durometer), some rubber compounds may disintegrate!

Has anyone tried laquer thinner? On my Racing Go kart i use a mixture of laquer thinner and diesel. It works really good. I just haven't tried it out on my crawler.

I'm not being dense, am I? What's wrong with Trinity Red Dot or Paragon? You know, stuff that's actually designed and marketed for the purpose of softeneing RC tires? I know they stickify my race tires nicely.

By the way, the combination of bleach and break fluid creates a chemical reaction that is not pleasant. Temperatures of the mixture will exceed 200 degrees and the fumes will make the strongest of stomachs turn over.

Lol

The mods are always saying to use the search engine and for freaks sakes stop making new threads because Harley has already explained how to do it 10 times over

"ok well it seems this subject is old news now that moabs are out" read that line and didn't have to look at the post date, I knew it was old
