Superjuice Berg

Thats really odd. I have 45 turn broods on 4s in mine, and they are buttery smooth on startup. I would put a little expo in the esc's and maybe the radio as well. Also check the condition of the motors, and your gear mesh.
 
Well to get caught up, I put some 3/16" Ti links on the super a little while back.

They shed some weight, but I was at a loss for shock mounting. Then I had an idea.

They are 3/8" delrin brackets that I made. Two set screws secure each one.

So, the super has been in desperate need of a rebuild. The CKRC tubes had great performance, but the tube/flange area got sloppy after all the abuse competing this season has brought. I thought about getting them welded, and may still, but really just wanted to try something different. So, my labor of love gets some more TLC:



First off, I got Krawlfreak hooked on CF, he can't be running thinner carbon than me. So after wispering a lot of sweet nothings over late night conversations, this arrived at my door.

I asked Erik (Dlux) about his tubes for a super. He helped me out a bunch on these delrin tubes and link setup. I was own my own for servo mounting, and on delrin tubes, thread integrity and strength are a big concern on a super. So, I combined all of my ideas for servo mounting and im happy with the result.

Here is the front axle almost complete.

Desired castor and gearbox clocking. Also this picture shows how badass the clear Dlux berg covers are. Now thats clear.

My front servo mount. The upper gearbox bolt is longer and threads into the mount horizontally.

There are 3 screws securing it to the tube vertically.

And a brace that ties the lower right link mount into the servo mount.

I'm confident in its strength. 8)
 
Very nice...I almost wish I'd held onto the super berg axles I had...almost. Whatcha think about using the inserts from Mcmaster in the tube so the threads are more rigid? Is there enough material?

There is enough material, or really close and the inserts can be shaved down some. But delrin is a really different plastic than those plastic axle cases. I don't know if they will "bite" the same in the delrin. I would love to try but its too expensive of an experiment for me. But if they strip that is definitely plan B (inserts and IC2000).

But the link brace should really kill a lot of the torsional stress that would wallow out those holes in the tube.

I am anxious for its first roll down a 40' cliff! We need to see just how far we can push those tubes.

Nice chassis. I cant believe how little that thing weights. This thing is going to be a killer!

When you get some drive time and we are feeling good about the tubes holding up I will revise a new servo mount and get one out to you.

Nice work Shelby! It has been a while since I've seen this truck....we havent run supers in quite some time....
 
It seems kind of silly to try and make your car a light as possible with plastic tubes and paper thin carbon fiber chassis, and then run inch thick upperlink mounts, and servo mounts. And when its all said and done, bolting 40 ounces of weight to the front end to make it work right.
 
Very cool rig, Can't wait to see how much the thing weighs in the end. I'm sure it will be everybit as much a performer as the heavy weight.

It's alot easier to add weight where you want it and where it will positively effect the rig..."thumbsup"

i think it's silly we play with these stupid toys and that they take up so much of our lives.....kinda like a disease:lmao:

i questioned the thickness of the servo mount (but that was made clear to me over another conversation) and i think the link mounts could be made of a better material too.:twisted:

but shelby is going in the right direction, i think. i would guess he will have a sub 7lbs car when it is all said and done with a really desirable front weight bias"thumbsup"

the question will be can a sub 6 lbs super happen using the tire and wheel size we have gone to?
