Tamiya ta05vdf

I was at a buddies giving him a hand with something and noticed he had an unbuilt ta05 kit sitting on his shelf in the barn. So for the price of my labor I went home with it.

I'm not familiar with this chassis and still have the same tc4 I've had for 10+ years that i bash around. Besides being a drift chassis anyone tell me anything about it?

I'm probably going to build it here soon and wondered if anyone else has one or has had one and knows some good modifications or hop up parts to start with. It doesn't look like it would make a good grip car because the motor placement but I might try it anyway.

That's the drift version of a not so loved chassis. It comes with lots of upgrades so you should just build it and run it. It's actually still for sale on Tamiya's website. You got a heck of a helping out gift!

Yeah he said it had been sitting there a while. He got in to the drift thing forever ago and this was one of the cars he never got around to using it. I'd guess it's 5 or more years old.

I did look it up, it's bizarre looking for sure that's kind of why i had the interest in it. My tc4 is aged and it's getting hard to impossible to find parts and if i break something now it's likely junked. I figured Tamiya has a better track record of support and a pretty solid community.

The akerman steering kit came in today so i thought I'd get on it. Don't mind the tiny work space, my hobby desk is currently being used by my old lady who is working at home right now and it was the only place that would support her computer, printer, work phone and monitors.

I did make a fatal mistake, well 2. First was i ordered the gold akerman kit, and second almost forgot to seal the carbon. I'm uploading the images via Tapatalk, so if the quality is crap sorry. I refuse to pay a company monthly for something i already bought outright.

Great kit, I'm sure if can be made to handle or drift, it's all in the tuning.

Lol no, I've got a bunch more done but forgot to take pictures. I'll get one shortly here. I need to order a body, wheels and tires, motor, esc and a receiver for my radio.

I'm not quite sure where to go with the motor, I'm hoping something like a 19 turn will be enough. I'm also considering brushed over brushless for cost.

This is where i am as of today. I started the suspension last night before bed. I ham handed the carbon gluing and fogged some of the chassis. I feel like an inhuman monster but it is what it is.

After recently working with an axial kit I remember why i held Tamiya kits in such high regard. The fit, the instructions, the material quality, it's all great.

I'm completely shit at build threads.

I got a little further yesterday and am close to completion. The drive cups on this model can suck a turd right out of my ass. Going back in would assemble this much differently to make sure i can get the metal clips back over the ends of the drive cups.

I also had to take the akerman kit out until my my new tie rods come in. The factory ones wouldn't fit and I don't have anything on hand so in the name of just completion I went back to the kit one. Plus the blue matches so that's nice.

The shocks in this are some of the nicest I've seen in a kit they are wicked smooth and look great.

I don't think I'm going to order anything else for this at the moment. I'm going to try and use some of what I've got floating around to complete it. And that leads me to a question. I've got 2 motors not doing anything a generic 27 turn from something and a team Orion 14 double that I've had around a while. I'm thinking the 14 double is going to be way too hot even with a 128t spur and a 39t pinion the kit has.

I could try the 27 turn and use the 39t pinion and a 112t spur. I'm not really sure for this application because i know nothing about drifting.

Old girl is looking good. Fogged CF (carbon fiber) is far better than Fogged FC (Frontal Cortex lol)

Build threads can take some planning and plotting, much like a marriage or RC itself. lmao

Well, I'm done as far as i can get until I decide on a motor and figure out what I'm going to do for wheels and a body, the last set of tc wheels I have are offset too far and rub.

I've just got a crap steering servo in it with the servo saver because I don't know how strong it is. I figure this is a drift car so a super powerful servo isn't that critical, plus all of my hitec servos are in other vehicles. I'll grab some more pictures in a bit.

I have an old mamba max laying around and a ~3300kv brushless as well as the others I mentioned. If I'm not mistaken it's a very old hobbywing motor.
