Terrible1's Wraith IFS

Lol! They're coming! Photobucket has decided to have technical difficulties with uploading images...

Alright, update... I installed the front A-Arms and got the front end pretty much put together. I ended up using the VP axles and a set of Axial shocks for mock up. I'm going to try these for now (just different spring rates) and see how I like them.

In the rear I used Yeti length shocks. The stock springs are way too stiff. I have a couple other softer sets I'm going to try but I still need to wait for the axle to show up (scheduled for Thursday delivery). I did a little bit of trimming to the skid plate to allow the rod ends to move freely. It'll be interesting to test the axle positions. My understanding is there are 2 different options for link width.

Side shot:

I'm pretty happy with the BGR shock mount. I will probably end up trimming more of the rear lower cage to use the forward most hole positioning.

The SSD trans was super easy to put together and install. Looks really clean and simple. I have the MIP's set and just waiting to get the rear axle installed to check all my clearances.

Awesome build and some nice parts your using. I have the SSD trans in my wraith with a Pro4 3300kv and it's a blast. Can't wait to see this come together. "thumbsup"

Thanks bud! The last part of this "build" will be the electronics. I'm still on the fence which route I'm going to end up going. I may end up putting in an HH 3500kv motor in it with an MMX. It's become my go to set up for the last couple of rigs. What gear ratio are you running? Are you all go fast? That's the plan for this one. I was planning on staying with stock 56t spur and I have 14t-20t pinions in my parts bin. I don't necessarily want to be stupid fast, just fast enough (on 3s). "thumbsup"

If I remember right I am using the wraith spur and a 14t pinion. On 3s its fast but I can still crawl with it but it is a little tricky somethimes. LOL

I would start out with a 12t pinion. Or at least your 14t but that might be to fast.

Have you thought about mounting the TA's on the outside of the skid to get them more parallel? I think performance wise, it would help.

Rigs lookin good so far. Good job and keep up the good work. "thumbsup"

Re: Front Diff recomendation

I did not see if you are going to run a locker in the front diff or not. I would recommend Not. Use a diff with gears and fill it with Diff putty.
I have broken even the vanquish front axles on my Yeti with a locker.
Putty gives the diff some shock resistance without being open.

Great info guys and thanks 84yoda! I'm running an open diff up front. I don't like running a locker in any of my ifs setups. Just never made any sense to me to do so. All of my go fast rigs run an open front diff and handle so much better than locked. I've had good luck with stock housings (outside of having to watch pinion bearings) and generally I only upgrade the gears and run a thicker oil.

Im running a locked front end. Lol.

That GCM case looks good, I might have to pick one up if this locked front end doesn't work out.

T, MOAR PICS!!

Serious!? Oh that's right, you're running MIP's up front too right? I tried both ways in my Bomber a while back and I liked how the front end handled turns better open, vs locked.

More pics coming... BGR KOH cage is on... mocked up my panels too. Completely changed the look. The rear axle should be here tomorrow too. If all goes as planned, it'll be a roller tomorrow night!

So as I was expecting, my rear axle showed up today and it's even better looking in person!

I was trying to take a pic showing a comparison to an AR60 axle... I need to work on my photo skills, sorry guys. The Metal Concepts is roughly 1/4" wider.

So everything mounted up pretty easily. I opened up the axle to check for grease and well, just to look. I was happy with their build (it came pre-assembled). Plenty of grease, they shimmed the bearings and there is zero slop in the axles. Sorry, no internal pics. I was overly anxious to bolt it up...

She's too pretty right now, everything is new and shiny...

The pinion angle is perfect...

I ended up swapping out the front links for a set of VP links I had. I liked that I didn't have as much thread exposed in the steering links vs the Blue Monkey links. Well, and they just look better too. Next up I'm expecting wheels to show up. I mocked up my set of DCW's from my Bomber with 350 front hubs and 600 rear hubs. The width was evenly and perfectly at 13" from outer tire to outer tire both front and rear. I have a set of VP Bully wheels coming and I'm not sure if I'll need to adjust the hub sizes yet.

You're really making me regret selling mine. This thing looks damn good and that axle is beautifully made.

Thanks guys! "thumbsup"

I can't even explain how nice it looks in person. The machining, the finish and just how well it's put together.

Hey Screamer, didn't you literally just sell yours within the last month or so? I think I remember seeing you post it here. I was tempted at that time but I just had to put this one together myself.

Yeah it was pretty recent. It was one of those, too many projects going on at the same time, decisions. I honestly didn't even think about making it a go fast basher. I was trying to build another rock bouncer type truck like my IFS Bomber and hit a wall creatively. I'll just have to enjoy yours with you :-/

Yeah that's a total bummer. But I've been there. I was looking at doing more of a rock bouncer specific rig too, but ended up putting it on the back burner. At least until I get through the 3 current projects I have on my plate. One of which was inspired by yours, Bilinvic and 84yoda's IFS Bombers. I want this one done first though!

I have never NOT enjoyed one single moment with my B1B Bomber and I'm sure you'll feel the same with this IFS Wraith. Love that rear axle....how heavy is it?
