The French Canadian Bomber (First-time Build)

I've had one of those for about 8 years, I use it about every other day for something or other...

Incredibly reliable, saves so much money compared to cans of compressed air - great for the environment!

Made in the USA, and you just pop the filter out and wash it in the sink when it gets dirty.

It's heavy gauge steel, too...

So it's been a while since i played with my Bomber. Winter has been pretty long and cold, every time i got the RC trucks out, i froze my hands and batteries didn't last more than 30mins...

Now it's spring and i'm staring down at a big box of upgrades (Stainless link, Wraith lenght conversion, LURC axle shafts, aluminium wheels, TSS brass knuckles, and more!) and i said to myself why not go brushless ?

So here i am looking at that Puller Pro / Mamba X combo on the Holmes Hobbies website... I'm about ready to buy even if i know my wife will tell me it's your money if you want to spend it on ''toys'', i will deal with that later :)

I still can't decide between 2700kv and 3500kv so help me out guys :

I run 3s 3300mAH 35C packs with the stock spur and a 11T robinson pinion. I also have a 10T robison pinion in the part box. Both axle have stock kit gears, beef tubes and VP stage one parts. I will be installing SSD metal driveshafts for the wraith lenght conversion.

I have hot racing gears for both the transmission and transfer case plus a robinson racing metal spur kit. Are those required for big brushless power ?

My typical terrain is mostly hiking trails, general woods area, grass and pavement city parks, some gravel and rocks and occasional sandy beaches.

So TLDR :
3s LiPo
3500kv vs 2700kv ?
Upgraded transmission gears ?
Metal spur ?

Sounds more like go fast trail fun then crawling. I went with the 2700kv but my bomber is mainly setup for crawling. I felt the 2700kv gave me enough wheel speed where the 3500kv might be a bit much on a crawler which is probably more preference then anything else.

Hope that helps.

Just got a little envelope at my door, TSS Brass Knuckles!
These are an incredible piece of machined brass. Really nice weight and look pretty strong.

I will remove my beef patties wheel weights and try these alone first.

Still haven't found time to work on the upgrades since I use whatever I have to just run the truck instead.

I also moved the Eachine TX03 / ROTG01 FPV setup from the yeti jr to the Bomber.
It's so much more stable, makes the video really smooth.

Little run around the front yard. I was able to go at least 2 houses away from me on 25mW. It's pretty good for ground FPV with all the interference and walls.

I am working on upgrading the FPV gear. I just received a TS832 bosscam transmitter that will be paired with a Foxeer Predator v4 camera and stream to a Eachine EV800D goggle/monitor box.

Just completed 2h30 of trails and rocky roads
No broken parts, motor and ESC not even warm.

This thing is a beast!

How are you liking the TSS brass knuckles?
Sadly it's not installed yet...
I decided to run as is another summer and I will most likely tear it apart around August or September and upgrade a lot of things

So...
This is what I have been working on instead of the upgrades [emoji41].

Drone laws are getting CRAZY in Canada so I FPVed the Bomber!

Cleaned up the wiring and went through the camera settings. It was in PAL mode...

It's ready for a test this week.

First 2 runs are completed. It's really awesome and versatile.
I can use the FPV goggles for driving alone, I can split the goggles and use the screen so everyone can see and I can still plug the old ROTG android receiver and get the feed from the Foxeer camera to my phone to upload to YouTube.

The reception cuts pretty badly around buildings and dense vegetation, i might need better antennas, still learning FPV.

We are at a rental cabin in the woods, I made up a small track with plywood and logs. Not a single screw or nail!

Stay tuned for more trail videos later.

Being all the way up North in Canada, we don't get a lot of critters and scary bugs. Most of them are not dangerous but this one scared the shit out of me...

It's a fishing spider, was about 3 inch wide. They can get much bigger according to google, they also swim and eat little fishes...

Completed a few nice trail runs and it's really working well.

I solved the reception problems with a pair of RHCP antenna for the android receiver. Now I get a good signal in the woods.

The FPV goggles will get new antennas soon.

For the last one of the day, I went on a short trail with my 4y old son. He drove the yeti jr and completed the whole thing on his own!

No broken parts on both rigs.

Made a few FPV videos but the HD Cam feed is all blurry and unusable. I think the Gyro stabilization on the Firefly 7s is complete crap.

I've always wanted to try FPV in a scaler. This looks fun!
It's really fun but you kinda realize it's designed for drones.

The camera FPV and lens are made for very wide open space AKA the sky.
On a crawler you lose half the view on the bottom.

But yeah it's fun!

Ok it's been too long since I posted something...
We had a baby in may 2020, plus the pandemic so my bomber-freetime is about none.

I was still able to mount the new Ottsix USD sticky in my chanquish wheels. It's so much easier than the stupid MT/R, Ottsix is my new tire supplier for a while!

The bomber still needs it's many upgrades, all the parts are waiting but I want to run it this summer so it will wait.

I also bought a basher kit, Tekno MT410, that I need to build.
I might do a build thread in the "Other RC" section [emoji41]
