So, my school, has this game called humans vs zombies. Basically its a massive campus wide nerf war. First day like 80% start as humans, 20% zombies (or similar, i don't know specifics, never went to an info meeting). And if a zombie "tags" a human then the human turns into a zombie. If a human "tags" a zombie, then they are out of the game for like 15 minutes.

Anyways, after watching some pretty epic battles around campus, i want to build some bad a$$ CO2 nerf guns. I don't know if i'll be a serious player or not, may just "lease" out the guns :ror: ...building is the fun part, although pewning a hoard of zombies with a chain gun at 10+ darts a second:ror:

Anyways i'm going to make sure its legal for this game, and if it is, hopefully get some nerf guns built over the next few months.

Anyways, i have the vulcan chaingun, longshot sniper rifle, the firefly (8 shot rfile revolver), and a couple pistols somewhere (I think)...i'm going to try and out fit them all with CO2. I'm a newb to this stuff, so if anyone has some good resources on how to implement co2 into shooting a projectile, lmk. All my nerf weapons are back home in the attic i think, so it'll be a week or 2 before i can tear into one and figure out what needs to happen.

If CO2 isn't allowed, i may do just some insane electric stuff with heavy duty springs.

I'll probably tighten up the barrels abit and add a bb to the end of each dart to get it going as good as it can get. Use darts with the good aero tips (not the stupid suction cup ones)...i also really want todo a nice tight barrel that's rifled and have co2 air ports all the way down the barrel to give the dart some more acceleration for distance and rifling for accuracy over the distance. This would be on the sniper (long shot). BUT, i'm not sure how i'd do the rifling or how i'd setup to give burst of c02 at the right moment.

I'm no physicist, but Nerf darts don't go fast for several reasons, mainly for safety since they are geared for kids. Like Harvo said, they're only going to go so fast.

But don't let that stop you from trying.

This ain't a stock gun silly:flipoff:

back in the early 90's i invented a game called "hitman" before the game and movie came out....we used these safe shot rubber dart guns from the local dollar store....the darts were soft rubber bout3.5" long with a 1/2" suction cup on end of them, you can get shot point blank in the eye with not much pain....

we ran the game weekly from midnight friday to midnight friday and cost each player 5.00 bucks with winner takes all the following friday....i used cardboard fiber poker chips with names of each player in game on them, then drew them out of a bag....

you had to toss your name back if you drew it out untill you picked someone else, you could not let anyone else see the name you drew or tell anyone....then we would start the game at 8am saturday mourning to give players chance to get home safe and not get ambushed going home....

when you wacked the player you had on your poker chip you got his chip to carry on to wack him/her, the game went on till friday night midnight when we all met up to see who was left....but on rare chance your player drew your name and you his, when it came friday night there were two people left who needed to have a shoot out....

so the game went on till next friday with each matching what was in the pot, plus those two players knew who was after them which made it more of a challange because you had to work out a plan to hit each other....i'll tell you one thing, just going to work each day had you on nerves end all day long....not knowing where you might get ambushed at work on lunch, going home or just going to the store for food....

only rule was there can not be any witness's when you made your hit, other words you couldn't hit anyone while there were people around and not take any of them out as well....might get nasty with people not in game getting shot at :lmao: ....we played this for bout 4 years with any where from 8 players or more.........bob

What does the projectile have todo with velocity? Sure they are "soft for safety", but they are capable of a much higher velocity than what the stock guns can put out...

They are made of porous foam with a very high surface area, which equates to drag.

They are also very low mass, so they'll lose any extra speed you might give them out of the barrel.

Will they go faster than the Nerf guns will push them? Sure.

they blow apart pretty hard out of a paintball marker. probably the gas pressure, all i know is i saw a puff and then couldn't stop laughing. better off mechanical if you're going for velocity out of a nerf dart, big ass spring or crossbow style.

Are the projectiles coated in whatever that is NERF puts (or used to put) on their footballs? Those flew fast and far, and were a bit harder than normal stupid NERF stuff.

I think.

the ones i tried were the standard issue ones, felt like the pool noodle foam kinda. don't know it the longshot darts are different, know they have a tag tip, not a sucker one.

The darts are a closed cell foam, not very porous. And i won't be using suction cup heads, they'll be fairly aerodynamic. Weight has nothing todo with speed reduction, sure it may "slow down" easier due to the friction with the air, but they will also gain more speed than a heavier object with the same forces acting on it. The main noticeable difference (as in speed), is a rock flying at the same speed as the dart is going to hurt more because of its momentum (mass*velocity).
