I've seen the foam tipped bullets...I would imagine that if you could reshape the nose and take the blunt edge off of them it would help things quite a bit.
The foam may have improved a bit since I last played with one...they were pretty porous IIRC. But its been a couple of years.
Weight has a drastic effect when coupled with poor aerodynamics. Yes, it may leave the barrel at a high rate of speed, but it won't maintain it for long with a flat nose.
I think your best bet would be the sniper rifle. With its longer barrel you'll have more time to accelerate it before it hits the open air. More time means a less violent blast of air which means less chance of destroying it.
