My life schedule has changed do to a new career so my time has been limited. Havent had time to working on my 4Runner or do tedious details on some other on going rigs. With the winter coming up I needed something to get me into gear without consuming a lot of time. This rig was in the sale forum the other week and there was something cool about it so I grabbed it up. This is what it looked like when I got it.
Truck featured:
Axial axles
leafed front
4 linked rear with R2J link mount
Outback chassis
5645 steering servo
Lux body with bob'd bed, clear glass
RC4WD 1.55 wheels and tires
Axial shafts
Axial Transmission
RC4WD Shocks
The 1st thing I did was remove the Axial axles, IMO they give the truck a 1 ton look and that isnt what I wanted with this rig. I had some OG tlt axles in the shop that I freshened up with some bearings in the FatRock Cs, and some new front shafts a long with some TG10 shafts so I could runt he simulated disc brake rotor wheel hexes and still uses the Axial wheel nut cover.
Next, I drilled the frame to accept the stock leaf spring hardware and used some 2/3 cell battery bars for rear shackles. I then got some Deans 12g wire and stripped the coating off
I have found that this set up works well once you do the chino mod to the springs. Rather then squeezing the eyelet closed on the spring to take up the slack this allows the spring to twist even more on the bolt.
After I got the suspension all set up, I whipped up a quick interior. I upholstered the bench seat and used an Axial interior kit for the steering wheel, shifter, and dual cases. I then used a Bowtie Decal sheet as well as a gauge kit from RPP Hobby and made up a stereo, CB, and some auto meter gauges
The previous owner had a cooler in the back bungee'd down, so I decided to run with that idea. I swapped the cooler for one from Proline Racing and put some Ice and beverages in it, and since my friends who ride shot guns are slobs they left there crushed empties in the back
After that I headed into the garage and whipped up some Marlin Crawler sliders
And here is how it sits as of now
Also installed was:
New Grill retaining stock front bumper
RC4WD Snorkel
Axial Mirrors
Stock Hilux back window
Still to come
ScaleOffRoad emblems
Tekin FXR ESC
Spare tire
Hi-Lift Jack
Rear shocks
This build is gonna be relatively simple and to the point of running with intentions of having a good time and not worrying about it. So far, the only out of pocked expense is the ESC and Motor, everything else I had in stock in my shop
More to follow
Thanks for looking
-Mike
