I have a 2100mah Thunder Power Lipo. I am wondering how dangerous it is not to balance it or have a cutoff. I am using an XL-5 ESC. What others dangers are there to using Lipo's. I know these have probably been asked and I cant find anything so I figured I would ask.

Flame Away if you have the urge!

Do some searching on here for "lipo" for the details but you can run lipos with the XL-5 fairly safe as long as you pay attention. As soon as you notice your throttle performance degrade, you should stop running to avoid over-discharging.

In my experience, over-discharging won't necessarily cause the battery to blow up, but trying to charge a lipo that has been over-discharged might. Most of the time, I would think your biggest danger will be puncturing/damaging the pack in a crash. That will most definitely cause the battery to blow.

A balancer is not entirely necessary and is more of a luxury item but balancing your lipo packs will prolong the life of the battery.

I believe balancing is very important. The more times your pack gets charged with out being balanced the cells become more out of balance and eventually you will be over charging one of them due to the peak charger getting an incorrect reading. Never a good idea to overcharge your lipo's

Depending on your driving style, you could very well get 2 hours. I never run without a voltage cutoff, as it can be REALLY tricky to sense when it is run out of juice without killing it. Especially if you run a brushed motor.
