Tommy R's TTC Build - "Big Oly"

All this attention to detail and you slap some stickers on the dash:shock:...makes some bezels for it slacker:mrgreen:

Joking of coarse,This truck looks awsome, dig the OLY theme since it was brewed in my backyard for years.

Awsome job Tommy"thumbsup" hope to get a peak at it in person sometime.

Wow, that looks good. I was skeptical of your direction when you cut the roof off, but seeing the rig complete and assembled, I'm a believer. This build has been well worth the wait. The finished product is awesome. "thumbsup"

Thanks! I was a little leary, too, but I couldn't stand the "toyish" look with the cab intact. I just had to do something!

Yeah, yeah... :flipoff: Actually, I'm not happy with the dash right now. It definitely lacks some much needed detail. I've got a bezel kit from RPP and should've used it. Maybe it's not too late...

Hopefully I'll get to Montana for Nats with it, but that's a little far from Texas.

Wow, that thing is beautiful!!!

You did a great job on this rig, I really like the paint scheme and everything"thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Its not that bad. I am trying to rally BOWTIE to come since he is one of my drivers. Now thats 2 texas guys. plus there is Buzz1, BriansBodies, and MTHEAD in AZ. No excuses if you all team up:mrgreen:

Not really. This is the only guy I have and he's just a bit shrimpy for this truck so I'm looking for someone a little more "manly". :lmao:

:)
How about Hunter Dan, he's 7 -3/4" tall.

Never heard of Hunter Dan, but he looks like he may work great! Thanks for the heads up! Looks like they have a "Bass Angler" Dan who isn't wearing camo and he may even look a bit like me....so I picked one up from ebay.

I just got finished making the first test run. I made my series battery adapter, re-programmed my ESC, installed the rx, and powered it up. Everything worked fine so I buttoned it up and took it in the backyard for a shake down run.

Holy jeebus this thing is fast! On carpet it wheelied like mad. In the dirt it spun the tires furiously and took off like a scalded cat. If I were going to be rock racing this thing it would definitely need to be lower and have a wider track width. It's way too tippy at those speeds.

Gearing right now is 54 tooth spur and a 12 tooth pinion (32 pitch), which yields a 4.5 ratio before the trans. That's roughly equivalent to an 87/19 setup, but with an extra 3.7 volts now.

I didn't hit the rocks. I was having fun just goosing it and watching those Swampers scratch for traction at wide open throttle and then watching it screech to a halt when I let off the throttle. I think the drag brake on the Holmes ESC may be too tight. :ror:

Then I broke it.

Yep, I'd been running Axial CVDs up front that have been drilled out with Gunnar A1 drive pins. In all honesty, I have to say I was impressed. They did better than I expected, but they just can't handle this kind of weight and power. As much as I hate the idea, I think it's time to just bite the bullet. Super 300's will be on the way soon.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!!

This morning I slapped the old Axial dogbones in so I could test the truck out on the rocks in the backyard before starting the T-Giving cooking. Here's some quick "action" pics...

I also got a little video, but the fun didn't last long.... (sorry it's such low resolution. not sure what happened!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCB-vl4fTYE

The driveshaft from the t-case to the transmission started slipping as soon as I gassed it and then it let go altogether right afterward. Oh, the grinding noise you may hear in the crawling portion of the video is the aluminum skids that house the batteries. Anyway, repairs will have to wait 'til tomorrow. I gotta get cookin'!

I hope y'all have a great holiday! :)

Looks great. Which t-case are you running again? If the GCM, I know others have had problems with the yoke set screws slipping. The steel is so hard it makes it difficult for the screws to bite into the t-case outputs. Might have to dimple the outputs slightly to make sure the screw can't slip.

Oh, and happy turkey day to you and all my American friends.

Well, I can see the slippage is at the output of the tranny so it's not the GCM case. I haven't torn it down yet to see what's up. The whole interior needs to come out to access it. Boo!!

Love the tire warp shot.

Looks bad ass Tommy ! ! ! "thumbsup"

Thanks, y'all! :)

So I was the VERY lucky recipient of a set of wheels from RC4WD and I decided to get some for Oly. I really like the CACs, but have been thinking of going with an aluminum wheel. These are narrower by 4mm than the CACs and heavier by 1/2 oz. each. They're the 2.2 True Scale Series and I love 'em! They came with red beadlock rings which obviously don't match my truck. Should I pick up plain aluminum rings or go with blue rings? I'm leaning toward plain.

If those rings are aluminum and are anodized, just soak em in some Greased Lightning until the red comes off. Then a lil elbow grease to clean em up and you will have your plain beadlocks without having to buy a set of rings. Has worked every time i've tried to de-anodize aluminum.
