Tommy R's TTC Build - "Big Oly"

Im liking the bule on the chassis as well. The votes are looking good, you should be in representing us well. Good luck brother!

Thanks, man! I'm really liking the blue. Inside it's fairly dark, but outside in the light it really pops. It's just what I wanted!

Ooooh this is one nice build. I cant wai to start on mine.

Thanks very much! Post up a link when you get a build thread started. "thumbsup"

By the way, I wanted to mention that the powdercoating was done by none other than our very own Crawln Coles! Matt really did a fantastic job and I can't thank him enough for his efforts! I'd highly recommend his services if any of you are in the market.

Thanks again, Matt! I couldn't be happier with the way it came out. "thumbsup"

It'll be some shade of blue. The original Big Oly had blue tubework and I'd like to keep that general theme, as well. I'll consider other options, but I'm making a decision soon! 8)

I cut off the locating pins on the side of the skid first. Then all I need to do is pull the frame rails apart and I can just barely get the skid into place. I need to make sure I eat my Wheaties first, though!! :ror:

Oh, you know what I mean! :flipoff: I like the beer idea, but as I mentioned to ecoli, I think it'll end up a shade of blue like the O.G. :)

Here's a couple pics of the original for reference....

But I'm thinking of trying a glossy, non-metallic blue this time. Not sure I have the time to try to source the right shade of metallic.

I really think you need to make a functional wing. Have it servo operated to reduce drag on the springts....

Who needs a light bart whe nyou have a bad ass roof mounted wing? I'm sure if you do it, everyone will follow8)

And i voted for Oly as well"thumbsup"

Thanks, Cory!

According to Norm, the voting will resume soon for those who lost their votes. I'll try to keep tabs on it and let y'all know when the time comes. I know it's a hassle, but I really would appreciate the support! Oly and I are up against some really stiff competition!!

Voting is back open, folks! If you haven't voted, I would really appreciate it if you could give Big Oly one of your votes. Vote #16, please! :)

Thanks, man!! But no wing for Oly! :ror:

If anyone has any tips on assembling a HH Puller, please let me know. I'm not sure how far to screw in the endbell before tightening it down into position. Thanks!

Well, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that Oly is very close to back together enough to do a test drive. The front and rear steering is working well. The winch is running strong. The bad news is that I installed new springs/brushes into my 10t puller and it won't work now. I set the timing to zero as best I can just eyeballing it. Brushes look to be making contact with the comm. I don't know what it could be unless maybe I have a cold solder joint where the brush leads connect to the endbell? The HH ESC is sending the correct signals, but the motor is acting like it's not even plugged in. I need to resolve this ASAP so if anyone has any tips to try, please let me know!

Anyway, here's a pic as it sits at the moment.

EDIT!! I tried a different motor and same problem. So I started troubleshooting with my voltmeter and found a back connection in some Deans plugs. So I cleaned them off and all appears to be fine now. And to top things off, I must've gotten the timing spot on because it's not throwing any sparks at WOT. Score!! Now with any luck, I'll get this thing on the rocks tonight or tomorrow for some 4WS testing!

Looking good Tommy! "thumbsup" Oly got one of my votes

Thanks, man! It's far from over and I appreciate each and every vote! "thumbsup" Please VOTE for #16!!

This morning I noticed the DVR had recorded an episode of Hot Rod TV featuring an entire show on Parnelli Jones! And of course they discussed Big Oly in the process. Very cool! It motivated me and I got a lot done on the truck today. In fact, it's very close to being finally assembled. I can't wait to try it out ASAP! Anyway, I couldn't help myself and took a few pics with the new wheels/tires mounted up. 8)

Yeah, I was hoping to be farther along, but it may be 100% done by tomorrow evening. I may take this one as a carry-on on the plane, but haven't decided yet. I need to verify carry-on restrictions first. I may even check it in my baggage since that'll likely be cheaper than shipping it via UPS or FedEx. I'm planning on shipping my other truck, though.

Looking freaking great Tommy! Loving the blue too!"thumbsup"

Thanks, Justin! :)

looks good tommy, be sure to put a filter of some sort on that motor. nitro filter works well. one run in the mud will shut you down.

good luck, you got one of my votes"thumbsup"

Thanks, Erik! Regarding the motor, I mentioned it to John Holmes and what he recommended was to tape over the slots in the motor to keep the larger crud from entering the motor so that's what I've done. Hopefully it'll hold up! :)

nice! if ya need some hardcore testing before nats, we'll hit up the rock the lake location, its amazing right now twice the rock exposed.
