Tommy R's TTC Build - "Big Oly"

You have now....... :flipoff::ror:

Nah, I understand that it's hard to build one without selling one. 8)

I really wish I had the funds to keep it. Alas, my money tree hasn't quite bloomed so one must go so that another may (eventually) arrive.

thank you Tommy. That's really a good summary with pictures some more. I believe me as one of your many voters, I really Appreciate the report. oh man, i can feel the frustration as i'm a competitor too but none up to your level .. you really did us proud by the outcome.. even though lady luck not with u that day but you really go for it. that's the attitude needed to be champion. you deserved to be in TTC again next year.
sad on OLY went to others hand but i am pretty sure that person gonna treasure it as one of the great truck in TTC. i know i will.

i know u must be tired and u surely need a good holiday after the TTC, but still, with hope that you continue updating us here with your new project.

all the best Tommy "thumbsup"

Thanks, man! That's nice to hear. I certainly gave it my all and if I somehow manage to make it into the TTC next year, I'll do everything in my power to put on a good show! "thumbsup"

I downloaded a few pics from Tom at RC4WD and I thought they were pretty cool. Thanks again, Tom! :) Here's all the TTC competitors.... I think Justin is picking his nose! :lmao:

LOVE this shot! I'm not sure, but I think I may have been the first to make it through the mud pit. I think it was a big shock to everyone that the fattest, slowest rig at the event made it through the fastest. I know it was a shock to me! I figured it'd be my worst event, but it was my best. It was great hearing all the cheers as I made it through. Made my day!

Here's an interesting sequence of shots showing the unfortunate luck I had on the truck pull. If you look really close, you can barely see the top of a rock just in front of the sled.

And WHAM!

So close! If the front tires had touched the line it would've been a full pull.

And here's a link to all the pics I've got from MSD if you're interested:

oh man  this shot really shows the excitement everyone had when u reached the end .. awesome.. pretty damn awesome shot!!! Well done to you, Oly and I bet Brad Bender took that zoom-in shot on that awesome Ripsaw tires too

and thanks to the great cameraman too... love this shot!! "thumbsup"...
other than the other "moonwalking shot" :lmao:

Well, folks, it's officially official. Big Oly is no longer in my possession. I'm bummed about it, but it went to a very good home and evidently upgrades are already planned for it. I'll leave it up to the new owner if they want to continue more updates.

Thanks to everyone for following along all this time. This rig was a ton of fun!

Yeah, had to do it. I'm ready to do something else now and needed the funds to move on to whatever is next. Glad you're enjoying the wheels! They look great on the FJ!

So.. Whats next?

Honestly, I don't really know. I have a Wraith on order, but am not sure what direction I'm going with it and I may only end up using the axles. It will likely get all new metal work, etc. But I don't see me competing with it for long before I have to build it into something unique.

I am now the owner and will be rebuilding it over the next couple months. Actually thinking of using this as my TTC as I am having some issues with my current TTC truck.

Considering a new body with a different paint scheme, but I will keep the old body around for sure. Make it the shelf queen body at a minimum. I would feel odd competing with Tommy's truck as he built it.

I stayed with the 3 link suspension, running on some PitBulls on Mayhems. Have a 10T puller, BR-XL and CCBEC on 2 X 2S 2200MHr 30Cs. Savox SC1257TG for front steer and Hitec HS 5645MG for rear steer. Robinson Racing Gears and Punisher Shafts, home made transfer case shaft, Killer transfer case, Lights on 9V and HS 645 MG Servo Winch.

Hope I can do this one proud as it is one of my all-time favorites. Now that Tommy worked out all the kinks, it should be an easy build for me.

Hey Neil,

Glad to see it coming back! But you own it now. If you want it to be Big Oly or not....it's entirely up to you! You won't hurt my feelings either way. "thumbsup" Likewise, whether you decide to start a new thread or continue this one, it's all good! I just look forward to the updates! :)

Tommy

Wow, what a great thread. Sad to get to the end and see Oly gone but hopefully It will get built up nicely. I enjoyed the sweet video and the awesome pictures. Great job Tommy! I loved all the cheering by everyone on the courses. Thats the kind of comps that are fun. When everyone is 100% business and serious about everything it is not fun. Hopefully I will be able to make Nats one of these days. Again great build, looking forward to the next one. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

Thanks, Colby! I'm sure Neil will do him proud! 8)

What size tube did you buy to make this?

Thanks

Honestly, I don't recall. I assume it wasn't mentioned in the thread already? And the truck has been sold so I can't take any measurements.

Just a quick note that Big Oly is rolling again. Made some mechanical and electrical changes but nothing on the body.....yet. I love the paint, but I still plan to have the chassis blasted, add some light mounts, powder coated black and go with a Black and Orange body. But that will be this winter, for now it looks great and drives real nice.

Love those Montrucks, thanks Tattokenny.

Looks like I missed it. But that gearing are you running?
Right now I have 48p but want to run 32p like you.:lmao:
