Toyota Truck for Trucking

Imthatguy, king of tiny truck comedy

Aw shucks. I'm really trying to up my game this year. All show, no go.

Since this needs to be done soon, I focused my attention on a lot of stuff not worth taking pictures of. Buttoning down the electronics, setting EPA's, Trims, and programming drag brakes (no Holmes Hold this year). Making sure the balloons are watertight, attaching the HeyOK winch controller, etc. Lots of super boring stuff that I wouldn't normally spend so much time on, but want to make sure I've done it right.

Painted a 3D printed head I was shown at a local comp by a nice man with glasses. Shamelessly ripped off the idea of painting eyes on the glasses. Masterstroke Dana.

Didn't have another wiper on hand so used a rag. I've seen this done before. Works!

Made sure that my primer matched the primer on the full-size Trailblazer. Generis should appreciate this.

Now if only MTHead would return my PM's I could be finished...

I'm happy to report that I'm essentially done. All that's missing is a licence plate.

A few tiny details between yesterday and today. I flatted out and rusted the wheels to better fit with the rest of the build. Added a bunch of things in the bed, including some spilled paint. Darn it! Pobody's Nerfect. I also added a wired remote for the winch. I mean, how else will he control it?

Wait a sec, what's going on there?!

Yep, functioning exhaust.

I ran a 6v Smoke Generator unit meant for model boats via a battery (so I don't have to have it running all the time) and hid it in that wooden box I made. Hooked it up to the exhaust and presto, scale hilarity.

I'm going to put it through it's paces this week and make sure everything's working properly. If I had one wish, it would be for different shocks. These Kings are nice, but don't feel very accurate. I'll see if I can organize getting some Emu's before the 21st. Even the Superlift Steering Damper doesn't seem quite right.

Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking - Now a N00b built Trailfinder!

Love the detail! Dirty windshield & winch controller. Everything is top notch!!

Very nice youmightbethatman. I think you should put a glove on the windshield wiper instead of the rag so the truck waves, but that's my personal opinion.

Well, after a reasonably unsuccessful comp, it was time to get this truck a little more accurate. I went to leaf springs for springing.

I had a super fun time with it at the HOP, but found on the 3/4 link, there was a lot of body roll. A little too much for something so heavy. I got the soft option springs from RC4WD which made a world of difference. Sure, I lose a little flex, but this just feels, better.

As an aside, with the leaf springs, I had to lose the RC model ex front bumper. The one shown is temporary.

How much for the horse in a jar? or is that a unicorn?

If it's a unicorn, i definitely have dibs on it, lol.

I got to give you props man, i witnessed a lot of your incredible skills with your builds at ECSC.. i don't recall seeing this one though but than again there was a lot going on but this one is just as amazing as the rest.. i really wish i had the patience you do "thumbsup".

Love it!

Thanks, me too.

What did you use to fill the gap after roberting the bed...LOL

Robert Juice, of course! No silly, just styrene and a lot of styrene glue.

How much does a truck cost?

About one ninth the cost of a real truck.

It's a Unicorn, and since n00b gave it to me, it's priceless.

If patience is all your lacking, get on it! It's easy! Plus, you need a lot of trial and error. But that's even easier. Give it a go, you'll be fine.

New bumper is on, and I had a quick run at the HOP today. This setup is sooo much better. Still a great amount of flex, but not so much that body roll pulls the whole thing over. I'll never link a TF2 again.

Hey! Remember this heap? I done filmed a videe-o.

Re: Toyota Truck for Trucking - Now a N00b built Trailfinder!

Well done, sir. Hard to figure out which is more impressive...the truck or the videography.
