Down at our local track they have started a vintage Trans Am racing class. This is a silver can class and is a lot of fun to do. Here is a break down on this class. A few of us guys from WARCRC have jumped in and built some cars to race.


Trans Am Class Rules and Specifications
Body Specifications:
Late '60s to early '70s American pony car Vintage Trans-Am bodies only.

HPI part numbers:
17510 - 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cuda
17519 - 1966 Ford Mustang GT
17508 - 1965 Ford Shelby GT-350
7494 - 1968 Chevrolet Camaro

Parma part numbers:
10143 - 1969 Z28 Camaro
10141 - 1970 Boss Mustang
10113 - 1970 'Cuda

Pegaus Hobbies part numbers:
PGH4001 - 1970 Camaro SS
PGH4002 - 1970 'Cuda
PGH4003 - 1970 Mustang

Body provided deck lid spoilers allowed (not wings). No additional skirts or raised/extended wings or air control surfaces allowed. Body must be trimmed at body trim lines. Full rear bumper required. It is highly preferred that bodies are detailed in race type livery in period-correct paint schemes. Fluorescent colors, wild graphics, chromes and non-period correct paint schemes are frowned upon. All cars should have a number on the hood, both doors and trunklid, if possible.

Tire & Wheel Specifications:

The only tires allowed are HPI tire part #4793 front and #4797 rear, using stock tire inserts provided with tire and any HPI Vintage wheels designed to fit these tires. Five or Eight spoke or Vintage Nascar wheels available in various colors. 0mm offset front wheels and 6mm offset rear wheels are intended for 26mm width fronts and 31mm width rear tires. 8-spoke Vintage wheels from #3805 through #3814, 5-spoke Vintage wheels from #3815 through #3822 and Vintage stock car wheels from #3854 through #3860 are all legal wheels.

Grinding of tire tread is NOT permitted. Sanding of mold seam to remove seam is allowed. HPI Vintage Slicks are not allowed. Jack the Gripper compound is the only allowed traction compound. No other altering, changing or softening of the tire is allowed.

Chassis Specification:

Four Wheel Drive touring car chassis only. Any era or brand 4wd chassis is allowed. No 1-ways permitted, Spool or Diff are legal.

Motor Specifications:

Silvercan Johnson or Mabuchi are the only permitted Silvercans.
Traxxas or any other brand are not legal for this class. See the below link if you have questions.

Obvious cars will have gearing teched. Main DQs or loss of qualifying times for offending cars. Motor timing advance or tampering is not allowed.

Mandated FDR will be 5.8 drivers may have a higher FDR but no lower.

Batttery Specifications:
6cell NiMH
2S LiPO
Neither battery will have a capacity limit

Ride Height Specification:
Minimum ride height is 5mm.

Weight Specification:
Minimum 1500g in race-ready trim

This is the car I built to race this class, '68 Camaro.

OH MAN that is a class I have been wishing for in my area. I love vintage trans am racing. AAR CUDA all the way.
 
Thats awesome, I want to do an oldschool body for my little hpi sport. maybe find something like that arround here.
 
very cool looking car. i would love for a class like that around here but its hard to get anything started.

Sounds like a fun class. Nice looking car what chassis are you running?
The track got a killer deal on some TB02's, so I picked up one to build. I might be upgrading at a later date.

Mustang looks tight too, 05Tacoma, one of the only Fords I really like.8)

We here in Hawaii are trying to get this class going, would have had a great turnout today if we did'nt get rained out!!!:x

Was glad to find the SiR Trans Am rules. We are loosely following them.

Here's my Pro4 with Cuda body (painted by 05tacoma "thumbsup") and his Mustang.

That cuda is saaaweeeet. I'd love to get the new one, well the new Charger but no way the wife lets me drop 40large on a two door sports car. Oh, well I'll just keep getting my speed fix on two wheels for a while longer :D
